could be routing. I have complete failure of routing. It would not be something I can do to fix it, as its in the DNS routing of my ISP and I can't see them paying attention to me without excessively annoying them. Not my problem ,I play HDzCTF or ZERO CTF instead

when you get a general failure with a ping on your machine it is not routing there is an issue with that machine.

            please google it

general failure ping - Google Search

right now I am using winquake.exe for the server.
I saw that someone has an updated one, if it works with Qhost5 then I will give it a try

In my experience as a server host, .08 ticrate is terrible. .05 is the default and most may scold you for running it that high. Though it will take more bandwidth to run a lower ticrate, I suggest .025. It won't hog huge amounts of bandwidth, but it will make the gameplay feel much smoother.

I don't know what kind of bandwidth you have to spare at your data center, but I guesstimate that with a full server at .025 ticrate, it shouldn't take more than 1mbit (upstream).

Err we have a couple of 100 megs worth so 1 meg really is no issue.

                  I set it to .025 on 26000 and 26001

                  so have a go!

Sorry I'm late. So, if I'm reading this right, this is some really old Quake server that went down without getting noticed and is now back up? Wow, that's actually really sick. I'll put it in my favorites in Zquake or whatever. On a slightly different note, when I read OP's post I can't help but think of the occasional state that the Quake 3 master server ends up being in. Sometimes it goes down for quite a while and Id doesn't take notice. heh...

I'd suggest using ProQuake 4.51 with anti-wallhacking enabled, as this will save you bandwidth and lessen the amount of data sent to the client.

In the past we have had retro tourneys that bring back old players but they play 1 weekend then return to normal life and never to be seen again.

I wouldn't mind seeing this gaining success as it brings more players into Quake in general.

Thanks for the suggestion. For some reason I can't even access the server in Zquake so I'm glad I came to the thread with a suggestion already made

Is it enabled by default or is there a command for it? If so, what is it?

Roy sorry i was talking to Gand, but Zquake could connect if u had a new version .17 i think and use the /nqconnect command

Ohh haha well I think you'll be happy to know that you solved my problem! I'll keep Zquake handy since I use it for megatf, but if I have any issues with proquake I'll know what to do!

Switched out the server binary to proquake 4.51 & moved it from the switch it was on to one of our core swiches (looked like the switch it was on was having some issues) so it should be super smooth now!

Also I can still use Qhost with proquake, I just renamed it to WINQUAKE.EXE and Qhost thinks it is the old binary

added a 3rd server just in case
