That's a great question. You are so plugged into the concept of the new banner that it is apparent that you must be contributing to it, like all the code you helped me write and all the images you have submitted.
What's that? You didn't write any code or submit any banners? Oh, then you should probably be patient.

I was typing in the other active "Banner" thread that I would second you for this project starting RIGHT NOW!
Here are couple ideas I'll come back to you later...
#1
More banners (arts) to find/promote
#2
Making the easiest code in the world to have a "ROTABLE/CLICKABLE BANNER INFRAME".
#3
Give you a break...
to relax help me to find out this puzzle... it is really one for me!

Making the easiest code in the world to have a "ROTABLE/CLICKABLE BANNER INFRAME".
Selecting banners to display is as easy as checking a box (or unchecking it). There is an entire banner upload system and there is no limit as to how many of anything that you can have. Also the content manager enables you to edit the entire banner visual in "real time". In other words WYSIWYG.
I don't know how to make simple things. They always seem simple and I don't feel fulfilled. Do you remember that simple "kuler" thing I made a few weeks ago? I stopped posting about it, but I didn't stop developing it. I've easily added about 20 features to that thing and gave the entire thing a facelift. That wasn't even a "project" I was just trying to make a "color calculator" (real quick). I made that and then I was "bound" to allow it's full potential.
Oh the banner cms also allows you to overlay the logo and text (or NOT). In other words make and manage every kind of banner there is and animate it too. Create any type of rotation that you like (defined or random). Add and remove banners from the rotation...
it's a lot of stuff and I haven't even told you everything. How are you gonna produce something of equal quality and power with a javascript driven picture changer in an iframe? You're not.

I reread what I wrote and it's a bit harsh. Imma apologize for the harsh part but vindicate my harshness by saying "I work my ass off for a week on some hardcore scripts and then MOM tells me he is gonna "replace" it with super simple scripts that have 1/1000th of the functionality".. I'll be very honest and tell you that the first thought that went through my head was
"What the fuck are you talking about!?" followed by "Hell no!"

Oh I forgot what I really wanted to say.
If anyone wants to help, I'm fine with that (I think, maybe not, I am not sure) the only stipulation is that you need to be able to work knowledgeably with all of this:
PHP
CSS
HTML
Javascript
JQuery
SQL
JSON (maybe XML, haven't decided)
I do not use prepared statement, so you should be familiar with mysqli. You should be able to think outside of the box and come up with ideas that you have no idea how to accomplish, and then accomplish them in a reasonable time or be so bad-ass that you already know how to accomplish every possible thing that could ever be thought.
Why is being an elite thinker necessary? Well, I don't stop expanding these things and I'm pretty sure I have all of the obvious stuff complete.
Do I really want your help? No.
Why? cause no sooner do you think you have the scope of my code than I will have already changed much of what you figured out.
However, if you can really program in just about every major web language and you are willing to work in a constantly changing/morphing environment, I will give you a shot.
Just like my 3d models, I do not use a reference. I have no "basic" ideas written down, there is no flow chart. Nothing has been pre-considered. I take a simple idea and amplify the fuck out of it organically. I program, model, (other things) "in the dark". This means that nothing is concrete til a completed version has been deemed.
I could decide tomorrow that I hate it all and start over. That is highly doubtful, but not impossible.
Oh and maybe most of all you should understand things like class inheritance, abstraction, encapsulation, etc. I don't write QC-esque code, where it's just one long list of procedures.Last edited by MadGypsy; 04-20-2013, 08:47 PM.

Hey MadGyver you should think (re) what "help" means...
It just means to let others put some salt/pepper and see how it taste... now if you don't even let me show you and start to complain it is not ok cause it's not as good (or as complete/interesting/etc) as your "idea" well that's wrong.
What is wrong is you should learn to work with people to "achieve" something... and accept to make compromises.
You said/ask many things pointing me directly here... I guess you missing a big part of my effort around since couple of years... it's ok you can't see what I did you came a little late for that but the banners I've already worked like 20-30 hours staright before.
Since I couldn't really assit you in these condititions I'll try to make a quick project with Solecord (like in 3-7 days) and when your project with all the options is ready will replace the "simple" witht your "full" concept.
MadGyve I'm telling people all the time that "The most complicated thing to do in life is to make it simple"... I understand what you are doing but I might have this "easy" thing we need.
Also this wont be so big... I mean what do you expect?? I expect at most 5-10 banners in rotation... it is as simple as a advertisgin banner to me.

*"everything" = the QuakeOne access to the awesome banner content system that I am still going to create. Much of the work is making my Sitephyre banner content management system play nice with vB.
extra: you do realize that I write all of this stuff by hand, right? In other words, I don't use example scripts, helper editors that write the shit for you, premade modules or anything else that would force me to attribute some part of my work to anyone else. I also do not write anything down, draw flowcharts, take notes, nothing. Every single solitary concept and implementation is nothing more than a ghost in my head. A ghost that is written in 5 or more languages. I do it this way because it makes it VERY hard. I spend plenty of time trying to figure out what I screwed up...and I always do (figure it out). I took an IQ test recentlyand I was blown away by my score. It doesn't matter what the actual number was just know that it was really fuckin high (my QQ was even crazier). This is because I constantly force my brain to remember and know everything (even if I don't know or remember it - in which case I will invent it)
I'm just trying to say that my methods are time consuming, but I am accomplishing more than just writing script. I'm also forcing my brain to stay super sharp.Last edited by MadGypsy; 04-21-2013, 06:33 PM.

A bit of advice for you both , even when someone accidentally steps on your toes, just remember that we are all sharing the same floor so its bound to happen. Hell, take note of the OP author and then notice how I don't mind my toes being stood on, it helps the person reaching for something (updated look to quakeone.com , clearly out of my reach) and I'm fine with that.Want to get into playing Quake again? I hear ya man, but there is a bit of difference between stepping on someones toes, and yanking someone's toes out from under them for the sake of expediency. It's not like MOM was already programming up a better banner system, this was something that I declared. As a matter of fact, I was told that my idea was not a good one (sorta kinda) and I know that is not true so I am making it anyway.
It doesn't matter. If MOM wants to make the banner, I will step down and let him have the project. It's simply not worth the drama. I like MOM. I don't want banners and "feelings" to come between us.
I of course am still going to finish this. I'm just not going to spend any time making it work with vB til it is declared official that this is my project, always was my project and no one else is going to try to inject themself into it or beat me to the punch with something that I promise you will not be as elite.
I understand that a new Quake banner in general is not my project at all. This was being talked about years ago. However, the level I have brought it to is my project and it has only been 3 days of actual programming since I started.Last edited by MadGypsy; 04-21-2013, 06:37 PM.
