so I spent some serious time (I define whats serious brah, stfu) to creating an online petition involving Quake and it becoming a FREE DOWNLOAD at this website Quakeone.com along with very strong arguments on why it should be allowed,and the sale of Quake be abandoned at Steam Store! Pulled off the shelf and provided FREE HERE!

It's not live yet, so I can't provide a link to it yet.

What I can do is provide you guys the text that accompanied that petition ,just do me the favor of not taking a huge shit

in this post. Note this is my petition, its 2014, no ones bothered to fucking do this so if you gotta critique my petition than FUCK OFF ~ I posted this inside Venting Area because I want the conformity of in the event someone pisses me off about this subject that I consider more serious than the fingers (yours) I would desire to break if you bring any amount of shit to this post that is off subject.

This petition is to get the attention of these companies ; Id Software,Bethesda Game Studios, and ZeniMax Online Studios! This petition is the sole opinion / expressions of myself, and no one else. I created this petition on my own time and without consultation of any Quake community members!However opinionated this petition is, it also includes some cold hard facts, and they are not pretty. It's actually Nightmare mode, pun intended!

Subject ; The ORIGINAL Quake , released in 1996 !!!!!

Details ; The original Quake was unleashed in 1996 by ID Software , and since then that game has largely survived on the community that continues to barely thrive today , in the year 2014. Nearly 20 years later, the largely abandoned and forgotten storyline that is "Quake circa 1996" does not reflect any Quake released ever since. By just looking at the wikipedia page for Quake the game ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quake_(video_game) ) or visiting the website QuakeOne , it will become quite clear that the Quake being sold at Steam Store ( QUAKE on Steam ) is NOT what anyone who purchases this game utilizes. Only a handful of assets are actually used by anyone who purchases Quake at the Steam Store. Largely, the Quake game sold at Steam Store is broken,and as such it's a near occurs daily that the people who purchased a game they recall from their Childhood, who want to re-enjoy the pleasures of classic Quake gaming, find themselves at Quakeone.com wondering why Quake.exe does not work, along with a slew of other problems that plague what's being sold at Steam Store as the game that an older generation fell in love with.

As I see things, anyone who purchases Quake in this day in age,has to BY NECESSITY , has to go to other resources that are PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE by the extremely awesome community of Quakers that can be found all culminating at one spot, Quakeone.com

Darkplaces, Qrack, JoeQuake, ProQuake, FuhQuake , EZQuake , Quoth , and COUNTLESS other Engines are powering the game Quake. NOT GLQuake.exe , and not QUAKE.EXE

ASSETS IN THE GAME ~
These have been brought into THIS DECADE by awesome community members , every imaginable asset has been replaced, short of tiny bit of the game. Sounds are the largest hurdle, along with Models. NO ASSET SOLD AT STEAM STORE IS A VIABLE OPTION, THE GAME IS SOLD NEARLY FULLY BROKEN, SHORT OF USING DosBox , which is a joke. This locks the purchaser into 1996.

Quakeworld was developed with a NARROWBAND gamer base in mind, services that once assisted the masses in enjoying this game such as QuakeSpy which turned into GameSpy3D have officially COME AND GONE!

Steam Store sells a broken product to a FOREVER DECREASING AMOUNT OF CONSUMERS, WHO 99.9% OF THE TIME END UP AT QUAKEONE.COM GETTING THEIR GAME FIXED BY A COMMUNITY WHO DO IT FOR FREE.

Multiplayer Quake ,as its sold to the Purchaser from Steam Store, GETS NOTHING VIABLE OR USEFUL. THERE ARE ZERO MULTIPLAYER SERVERS THAT CAN ACCEPT AN CONNECTION USING WHATS SOLD TO CONSUMERS AT STEAM STORE!

Quake experiences a HUGE DISSERVICE from the TOP DOWN.
There are 3 companies which present a huge problem for myself and my fellow Quaker community, and I'm afraid greed for a measaly $9.99 once every two months or so will continue to prevail.

This petition will be making rounds on the world wide web , from one gamer to another. Sooner or later, someone is bound to pay attention. Better late than never I say!

Quake � copyright ID Software, who is owned by Bethesda, who is owned by Zenimax Studios, All these companies reserve the right to tell me to eat it, one returning community member at a time, at $9.99 cost USD , ETC ETC , S.S.D.D. respectively.

I understand I'm no the best articulate person,and I am 100% sure that this can be condensed to look better.

PSSSSSS: This is my last edit. I'm largely satisfied with the basics that I touch base on , but EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED with the over all packaging. if they do ever do it, it would be part of some promotion for quake5 or whatever, they're a company, you're not gonna see them do it for any other reason.

what are you actually trying to achieve here? to get people able to play quake for free, to bitch about the steam version, or to actually try to improve things?
the first isn't going to happen. the second isn't helpful (on its own). the third is good, but needs to be done the right way.

you could request for an awareness of 3rd party engines, like for instance providing the music tracks in a format that can actually be used by them, or figuring out some way to get the steam launcher to invoke a 3rd party engine to play the game with instead of the crusty old versions.
maybe provide them with a few easily-auditable diffs to fix the various issues that make the crusty versions unusable (dep fix, extensions length limit, 8bit textures are the 3 that come to mind). ultimately however, don't expect them to single out a single 3rd party engine (if they'd done that, we'd probably be stuck with people trying to use tenebrae instead...).

Precisely the goal here! Except ID isn't the last station, ever since Bethesda bought ID Software, this idea of mine (and others before me,pre-2014) isn't new, but the hurdles faced to reach this goal IS new,and it comes in the form of Bethesda / Zenimax. What was once a simple blessing from ID Software is now a triple fold blessing requirement from two other parent companies!

@Spike , I am pretty sure we are in agreeance that the status quo sucks.Whether its modernizing the product being sold at Steam Store (I DETEST THIS IDEA.) You project these companies/businesses as if they would never consider giving back to a community who has supported their product with unwavering vigilance over the years. That's the Public Relations NIGHTMARE that I spoke of very briefly.

To drive the point home a bit harder and further, Quake has existed without ANY support from the parent company/companies for many many years now. They've pretty much been selling a pile of broken shit to the HANDFUL of people who desire to enjoy the cult classic phenomenom that WE know and enjoy.

You presume (and you could easily be right!) that the hierarchy of the three companies involved surmount to money = bottom line, and that simply isn't the case. Battlefield 3 was being offered for free, which is a AAA title, has been given away for free just recently, by a company who is by far labeled more money hungry than the aforementioned companies. I understand that EA / Origin is merely a publisher, and DICE is the actual company who created the game, but simply knowing BF3 can be given away for free is a glimmer of hope that Quake being given away for free is very much a viable option.

Steam Store is just that,a store. Quake DOES NOT have to be sold, it simply doesn't! It's not this mad money making product it once was. Quake5 will have shit to do with Quake we know and love,the guys and gals who created the game Quake don't even work for ID any more, Quake is the largely forgotten bastard who's name sake is the only connecting likeness found in Quake II, Quake III, and every subsequent Quake released since then.

The only love Quake received is when the Quake character you play (Ranger) was included in Quake III's 'intergalatic competition / time transcending competition' where a variety of combatants all converge to find out who is the supreme gun toting killer.That's it! That's the only ties a modern Quake game (and Q3 =/= modern!)

It is the Original Post (in a chaotic wall of text,mind you,that needs UBER-REFINEMENT) I detail near endless reasons why 'We the Community' deserve a bow wrapped gift in the form of Permissions to distribute Quake the game from 1996.
I'm a complete fn newb as the technical side of things, but if say, some one with your skill set and knowledge of the inner workings and assets that are actually fact based,and not PRESUMED fact based, could be of immense importance to such an undertaking as trying to get this goal achieved,which is Quakeone.com becoming the sole-distributer of Quake the game.

Not to sound like some shitty novel, but if you don't believe in what you set out to accomplish as a goal, then you're just dead weight for those who do attempt to accomplish the goal. You're my primo candidate / target now, you flexed your prowess of knowledge and now I have a huge hard on for tapping that deep well of knowledge that would be incalculable travesty if I didn't acknowledge my weak spot to be fully propped up / supported by your strong spot.

This is larger than anyone individual and as such,any one individual has zero hope of pulling this off! I do this for the community, and while original motives weren't exactly clean cut, it took almost zero time to see the bigger picture. Quake is the bigger picture, I'm just a tadpole in a larger pond of a way more important ecosystem of classic gamers known as Quakers.

If success comes at the price of bowing out to a more articulate, more technical knowing community members, then so be it! Success is measured in my book by accounting for what the goal is,and if I am incapable of presenting the argument's for why Quake should be offered for free in the first place here at Quakeone.com in a neat tidy petition, then I gladly bow out to some one who fits the bill more accurately! Anyone can sow a seed, but nurturing that seed so that it can grow into the goal thats set forth isn't as simple as it would seem, and I fully acknowledge this. If anything I'm good at digging holes and propagating idea's!

@Wicked, glad you noticed! I said I would spearhead this subject in our conversation and I wasn't bullshitting you. Clearly I have given extensive thought. The one thing I lack is the tactful capacity to remain level headed, not letting opinion and emotion to rule what makes it in such a petition. NewDM is a good mod that indeed was developed by Canadian*Sniper, something happened and Monster picked it up, I played with him many times on NewDM even when he hosted it on his own connection. I may not be as active on the forums as much as you guys. But I do agree about this game MUST be free. I've bought the steam release about a year ago, and it was broken as all hell. (Messy as fuck too) I find it awful that my favorite company IDSoftware fucks up a release like this. I was one of the lucky few who got Quakeworld to run. Not GLQuakeworld mind you. But jesus christ not a single server supports that shit at all. I find it horribly disappointing that I spent my hard earn money on a fixer upper that IDSoftware releases a so called "Finish product"

That's going to be an uphill battle trying to get a company which desires pretty much only money to release something that can and currently does make them money.

I've never bothered with the "Quake Steam port" but I have noticed a pretty high volume of what's being discussed by "Quake1 on Steam buyers" about not being able to even play the game they've just purchased, it's a damn shame.

Seeing Quake players freed from this oppression of greed would be awesome! Though I agree with Mindz when he basically says "someone needs to organize the avalanche I plan to start.".

I'd be willing to back a petition of this kind though. Let me know when we can let our voices be heard!

While i didn't ever advocate for a ban due to his "wrecked truck posts" or any other post he has made, I appreciate the nature of this taking place simply because of the fact that not only myself but also bluntz(crow) is in the trucking industry and i'm sure the last thing we want to see is wrecked truck's. We see them enough on the road and then having to come here and see them too. This is my relaxation while im on my down time and i don't need any work reminder's of the danger's of my job.
