Turning Movement

Turning is a way of avoiding battle, but at the same time forcing the initiative from the enemy. In a CTF situation this movement can only be used if you are really close to the enemies fortress, and your fortress is fairly well defended. In a normal battle situation it can be useful however. The objective is to move your troops aside in such a way that the enemy can pass unhindered. This then allows you to do two things:
- Attack the enemys rear
- Attack the enemys base

However, this movement does have its disadvantages:- The enemy might discover your movement early on, and turn to oppose you.- The enemy might dicover your movement and with the aid of a pincer movement allow one of your flanks to be ambushed- The enemy might ignore you, send two squads back to base, one squad to your base, and basically give youy two fronts, and posession of your base.

If offered the possibility one should try to attack the rear as much as possible, especially when you are in enemy country, remember, bunker and pillboxes can only be facing one way, so if you take posession of them, you will use the natural defenses of the enemy for your offensive. If you try this on your side of the map, you might discover that the enemy will use your own defensive structure for his purposes.

Battles:
- the turning over the full line was once almost a hallmark of the French revolutionary/imperial armies (1795-1815) Hopwever, usually it was used as a movement early on in a battle.
