What's That?
[- By PainKilleR]
An update you say? No, not really, but I did want to mention that my Inbox is still open (well, until it gets flooded anyway) and hopefully I'm getting the correct answers to all of those questions out there. In the meantime, there seems to be a rash of connection problems after the recent patch. There's a great guide for tweaking your TFC install from Camel_Toe over here. Hopefully, this will help some of you out.
Revisionist History

OK, so I spoke too soon and I'm updating too late. Totentanz
re-opened the TFC Reform page. So, if
you're having a problem that it seems like all of your friends are having too, check over there to see if it's
already listed as a known bug in TF1.5. Totentanz has been working closely with Valve to keep them up to date
on all of the bugs in TFC, and hopefully he'll continue to do so for a long time to come.
Hopefully, I'll find some time to work on sorting the TF1.5 FAQ I posted a while back
so that the information will be easier to find. Remember: always close your anchor tags *grin*
Slight changes
[- By PainKilleR]
I've removed the links to Tot's email and the TFC Reform page, since he closed up shop. I'm not sure what exactly lead to this, but I'm going to take this space to thank him for all of the work he's done getting TFC this far.
His work at the TFC Reform site helped Valve to find out about numerous bugs and remove them as part of the TF1.5 update.
As I'm sure most of you know, the latest update had quite a few bugs of it's own, but it still fixed numerous bugs, many of which were fixed with Tot's help.
Anyway, thanks Totentanz, it's a sad day to see the site closed down.
In the meantime, my TF1.5 FAQ is about as up to date as it's going to get any time soon, so be sure to check it out at the link below.
Oh, and I'm still not going to start a bug list. One thing I've learned is I don't have the patience for something like that, and I doubt Valve has the patience to deal with me, either.
Catching Up
[- By PainKilleR]
With the latest patch I've been swamped with emails asking numerous questions regarding different things that are new with the patch, as well as asking how to get the patch installed and working.
I've done some minor updates to a couple of the pages here, and I'll be uploading a page specific to the new patch and the questions it has brought up shortly.
First, though, if you're having problems getting the patch installed, make sure you have your CDKey, then uninstall Half-life, download the Full HLv1100 patch and reinstall Half-life, followed by the patch.
That particular version of the patch will work on all previous versions of Half-life, so there's nothing to worry about there as far as what version you have installed.
Please note that as usual the patch will most likely erase your config files, but you should also remember that some commands have changed, so you'll need to update your configs anyway. Also, check the menu for any new commands you might want to bind to keys.
I have put some patch-specific information here. I'll be updating this as I go with new information, and then at some point in the future I'll seperate it into the different sections, updating the rest of the FAQ.
Here comes an update
[- By PainKiller]
No, I didn't leave you all stranded, and I have been answering all of those emails. I just got a little behind on keeping the site updated. Well, today I'm trying out a few changes to the existing format, and if all goes well, I should have a full fledged update very soon.
A slightly delayed update!
[- By PainKiller]
Well, the return from my trip was delayed a couple of days. I've been
getting a few questions answered, but will need to do some research
on a number of them. Hopefully, I'll be able to get them all answered
on Thursday or over the weekend. Ultimately, I'd like to make
some changes during the week before Christmas, as I'll have more
time starting that Tuesday (woohoo, time off from work). Anyway,
this update is mostly to let everyone know what's going on, and
also to hand out this link: Getting
the Best Possible Ping in TFC. It's a page written by Pinhead, a member of TPF and frequenter of our
forums. The link was posted there today, and I read some of
it and was impressed with what I found. I hope this helps a few
of you having problems with latency issues.
What do you know? Another Update!
[- By PainKiller]
I've added a few more questions and answers to the TFC FAQ. I've still
got a few more to put up there, but I've been thinking of a few
ways of changing the layout, since the TFC FAQ is becoming quite
long (I can't load it into Notepad any more), and I'd like to
keep it friendly towards all of you out there using dial-up connections.
Just a short note: I'm leaving town on Monday (the 6th) through
Friday (the 10th), so don't be surprised if you send in a question
and it doesn't get answered until the end of the week. There's
little chance that I'll have any internet access at all during
this time period, but I promise I'll get right back on it when
I return.
Thanks giving Day Update!
[- By PainKiller]
I've updated the TF FAQ and TFC FAQ sections with many of the questions
I've gotten over the last week. If you haven't gotten a response
from me, but your question is answered in this update (along with
a heading that looks suspiciously like a rewording of your email
message) then chances are that something glitched and you didn't
get my email response. If you didn't get a reply from me and it's
not posted here, than either I am still looking into it (really,
I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible), I didn't receive
your email, or it was a question about latency, which leads me
to the following:
I'm looking for an article on reducing latency and modem tweaks, as
the majority of the questions sent to me are about these things.
I've asked a few people for help with this, so as soon as I get
something, I'll be sure to post it for all of you out there having
problems with lag.
What's it all about?
[- The Hal]
In the past, Planet Fortress has not had a proper way to deal with
the various tech issues and questions that we received concerning
TF and TFC. When someone sent in a question, any one of the staff
who might know the answer would respond. And if we didn't know
the answer, it might have gone ignored. A poor way to do business
for sure.
In light of those poor business practices, we have enlisted the help
of PainKiller-[CE].
Having mentioned on our PF Admin mail list that I thought we needed
to have someone specifically head up the technical questions we
received, Bundy
nominated PainKilleR as a possible recruit for this purpose. PainKilleR
was moderating the Sierra TF2 forums at one point in time, and
has been active on many other forums as far as answering readers
questions on TF/TFC related problems. We feel fortunate that PainKilleR
accepted our request for help!
We would personally like to thank PainKilleR for his assistance in
helping Planet Fortress provide you with this additional help
in making your playing experience trouble free, and think he will
make a great addition to the ever growing PF staff. Enough of
my speech! Go check out the Team
Fortress and Team
Fortress Classic FAQ's if you need assistance in either one
of these mods. Thanks!
Also, as we receive questions, they may require quite a bit of info
to answer. Because of this, we may create specific additional
pages to answer those, such as the TFC
Config Info. Look for more of those sections to appear as
the need arises!
