Hail to the ercking

erc stepped up to the task of adding links to all the review site to each and every map available. Crazy? Yes. Awesome? Yes!
I did like less than a quarter of the work by going through Retroquake (what a mess), Ethereal Hell and TEAMShambler earlier. But with my pace this would have taken until next year…

Thanks erc for such a dedicated contribution.

Next on my list: The Search for the Missing Thumbnails. :)

Thanks to MoALTz the sorting is working again

The sorting javascript on the singleplayer maps listing was broken for months and I couldn’t figure out why. Sorting by date just would not work as intended. MoALTz managed to find the culprit in the code and fix it. Thanks!
I took the opportunity to do an long-overdue addition and now you can also “properly” sort by rating. And I also removed the navigation from that page until I have a good idea how to implement it without shrinking the width of the table so much. Enjoy!

Bored and up for some copy’n'pasting?

I want to have each map’s page link to all the available reviews on “the review sites”: TEAMShambler, Underworldfan’s, Ethereal Hell, RetroQuake (more), Ten Four, Crash’s (yes, utilising the rather random anchors…), Quake Map Hotel, SPQ Level Heaven and even the few at the Quake Terminus. And maybe even linking the relevant maps to erc’s recommendations and the Geniac.Net – Quake Map Played List.

Now I went through TEAMShambler and UWF’s, started on Ethereal Hell and realised that this is a very exhausting task. Especially since some of the remaining sites are rather chaotic if you would like to sort by filenames, heh. Having to find the filename makes it so much more annoying (hello RetroQuake!)…

So I want to ask if maybe there are some masochists who would like to help. I would send you a zip containing all the descriptions currently on the site. They are in XML and rather easy to understand. You would have to insert a new block and then insert the link to the review into it. Compare the source of 4fiffy1 to gmsp1 to see an example. Even if you manage to break the file somehow, it would still make it easier for me, isn’t that something! It would also be nice if you would report missing files (I already found a few). If there are naming conflicts try to determine which one(s) are at Quaddicted and maybe add a note in the map’s description about it (“this map is listed as blah.zip at [that site]“). When done (or terminally exhausted) mail them back to me and be a superstar.

Sounds exciting to you? Send me a mail (spirit at this domain) and say which site you would like to do. Maybe include if you are going to start at the top or bottom (by filename) for the impossible chance that two people want to do the same site. Cheers!

Less pink but more sexy nonetheless

It’s done, the descriptions have their new look and may I flatter myself: It is so much better. alk10.zip – Permutations of the Rotten would be a nice example.
Please report all missing screenshots. Most of them will be just a naming issue.

Bugs I know about and other things:
- The glossary does not exist yet.
- If the thumbnails (now that term does not really apply anymore) are blurry, you probably have the old ones cached.
- All but one map (alk10) have the additional links and requirements still in the description, not in the infos on top. This will be my work for the evening.
- The “Included files” tables are inconsistent, some include a folder with the zip files name, some not. Gonna fix that later.
- The font looks bad on Windows.
- Check if the browns look too green (feedback would be helpful).
- I do not care if there are bugs in outdated browsers, sorry. I even doubt they support XLST. You can create plain HTML files from the files with xsltproc or just ask me for it. :)
- The “Included Files” text is off in Gecko browsers (Firefox, K-Meleon), unless someone tells me how I won’t fix it.

New look for the news page first

I am now implementing that new darker look for the news page as a first start. Let’s see how it turns out.

Update: I changed the links to orange (thanks St3ady for the idea) and added a new logo by Biff. The listing pages are half updated, the descriptions might follow later. I already miss the pink. :P
