  • It's your blood decals. Internally, the engine renders them with an inverse palette; therefore the saved images have Green/White on black background.

    Look for :
    blood_splat01
    blood_splat02
    blood_splat03

If the ones you find look normal in your preview, then you should delete them.
On disk you want them to look green on black so that ingame they will be red.

Where do I look? I searched my hard drive and could not find any files with those names.

      • Help with my desired Quake build.

I prefer the lighting and performance of Qrack to that of DarkPlaces. So...I deleted my old Quake dir along with DarkPlaces in an attempt to correct the aforementioned blood issue (which failed). So, if I ever get the blood problem fixed, here is my desired build:

        Qrack
        Rygel's Ultra Textures
        Plague Pak weapons
        ReForged Bestiary models

How would I go about installing these mods into Qrack, as opposed to DP? Also, how do I fix the white blood? It sucks.

Ok, so I downloaded pakscape and in my Qrack (quake)/qrack directory I found a pak0.pak which had the blood decals. They looked bluish-white on black in my image viewer. So I tried moving the qrack pak0.pak into my ID1 directory (after renaming the pak0.pak that was already there) and it did not solve the issue.

Is Qrack failing to invert these blood decals?

            • try un-doing what you did, move all paks back. locate the blood decal files that look blue-ish, copythem somewhere on your pc (not in quake folder) then delete them from the pak. Lastly save the pak. Then try quake, let me know what happens.

Nah Quake reads pak files in reverse order based on the gamedir
so it will look for those blood1... files
                in /qrack
                /pak3
                /pak2/
                /pak1/
                /pak0

                before it goes to id1

are there any other pak files in /qrack??
look in those for blood textures that might conflict.

if at all else what kinda of gfx card do you have?

I've searched every pak file on hard drive. Those blood_splats are the only ones on my hard drive. My card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250.

I already undid everything. On a clean install the blood is still messed up.

I'm about to try Rambo's suggestion. I'll let ya know how it turns out...

Ok, I did this and it made Quake load a LOT slower. Also, it changed the blood from bluish to black and white. I just want normal red blood... =(
Could I possibly use a program to edit the decals, manually invert the pallette, and re-pak the "corrected" decals?

Here is a short video clip I recorded of this glitch in action. I used GIMP to invert the palettes of the blood decals and re-packed them (which didn't work). So, I deleted everything and re-installed. This clip was recorded from a clean install of Qrack and Quake.

Please do. You can send them to my email at [email protected]. It's just that I doubt it will work, as the glitch occurs in a clean install. It seems to be a problem with the way the effect is being rendered. =(

                              • How do I enable cdtracks in qrack? Is there a console command? I have the files named correctly and in the proper directories...but the tracks won't play.
