  • Unofficial ProQuake 3.76 - Beta

    Download: ProQuake 3.76 - Unofficial - Zip format - 0.9 MB

    Things have changed a lot since the 3.70 version.

    Added since 3.70:

    - Now can play demos automatically by clicking on them (from ezQuake)
    - Demo rewind and fast forward (use PGUP and PGDN to ff or rewind)
    - International keyboard support - for non-US users
    - Direct3D version for those who can't use OpenGL
    - High precision aim even on non-ProQuake servers (from LordHavoc)

    For other new features/changes read the change log. There are a lot of improvements, but many are not ones that sound exciting -- mostly bug fixes, minor features or more subtle conveniences that improve the quality of the engine. Source code: here.

    About the "play demos by clicking on them":

    You need to run the "demoassoc.exe" included in the zip and it will ask you what version you want to have run. At some point in time, I will have the client automatically do this itself but I don't want to mess with that right now.

    Then you can click on a demo, like this one: http://filesbox.info/834skilhack.dem (some demo Mindz posted)

    and it will automatically play.

    /The ProQuake Launcher does this but I like the direct approach used in ezQuake 1.8 and assimilated the code that has no need for a launcher.

    WTF?





    How do you resize the status bar/console/menu? Its way too small. I use 1400x1050.

    I also get horrible ping when I connect to rage.quakeone.com
    At shmack my ping is fine

      For now ... and this wasn't true of prior versions, the console width/height doesn't automatically size like in 3.70. I'll probably make it auto 50% in 3.77 for large resolutions and later expect to implement shift-on-the-fly conwidth/height.

      c:\quake\glpro376.exe -width 1400 -height 1050 -conwidth (800 or whatever) -conheight (600 or whatever)

      ... is required for right now

      I also get horrible ping when I connect to rage.quakeone.com
      I doubt it has anything to do with this, especially if your connection at Shmack is fine. Are you sure this isn't a compare and contrast thing?

      For example, DarkPlaces tells me I have 12 ping at Rage and 3 ping at Shmack, but that isn't possible as far as I know -- to have either of those pings for me would violate the laws of physics. (I'm 925 miles from Dallas and light only travels 186 miles per millisecond, so I can't have 12 ping to Rage )

        I also get some strange rendering issues on torches. Maybe the interpolation is messed up ? Heres a screenie :



        I tried -conwidth 800 and -conheight 600. Didn't do anything

          At shmack, my ping is 50 (PQ). At rage I can't even tell what my ping is since its so bad. it takes like 3 seconds to respond to my key press.

          In, DP, pings work fine. So i'm certain its a problem with Proquake.
          and yeah, the ping reader in DP isn't right. But I know it gives me lower ping than PQ. I think its actually around 30ish rather than 0 in DP. In PQ i get 45-60

            I'll look into that. There haven't been any changes to rendering, I'll experiment on my widescreen laptop.

            Actually, it shouldn't do anything. I'll have to make that work again.

            I was working on making the video resolution changeable in game (including vid_conwidth/vid_conheight) and didn't finish it. I meant to reverse the conwidth/conheight change but got distracted by other things I wanted to finish.

            Thanks for the feedback. I did mark this one beta because I didn't do the usual level of checking out everything.

              Looks like ms2, Monster go to id1 and look for a glquake folder, if it's there delete it.

                  Baker, it would be awesome if you added QMB effects, 24-bit texture support, and vsync.

                  Qrack doesn't support vsync wtf!! It's forced on in my video card control pannel, yet Qrack mutanies against it. I'm using darkplaces now :/

                    Vsync sucks. I feel that higher FPS helps me aim better.
                    and adding QMB effects would defeat the purpose. Baker wants to improve PQ 3.50, which was meant to be an old-school engine with no special effects , lighting, etc. Why don't you like Darkplaces ?

                      Darkplaces is fine after a little tweaking. I was using joequake, but that pissed me off by giving me ane damn GL texture mismatch error while playing Rquake, and I had 4000 frags too.

                        Man, I keep discovering more and more things that were broke/wrong about GLQuake/GL ProQuake.

                        Try typing chase_active 1 in the console while demo1 (you know, the one on Necropolis with the 3 zombies ...) is playing when you start up glpro (3.50).

                        I hate finding these things because I always make the assumption I "messed it up" when working on something and waste 30 minutes trying to find the problem only to realize it was already like that.

                          Yah, why does it do that? Does it only do that for the id demos (demo1, demo2, demo3)? I tried it on some custom demos, and those all seemed to work fine.

                          Nevermind, it doesn't work with some of my demos either. I wonder why it works with some and not with others.

                            I think if the demo wasn't recorded by ProQuake/Qrack and/or maybe JoeQuake it doesn't like it. Something to do with pq_smoothcam support.

                            But that's fixed now. I never knew about the problem before, but at least for me once I know about a problem it is hard to put out of my mind.

                            It's beta also. It has animation interpolation (motion smoothing), but is not as good as DarkPlaces in the weapon animation smoothing (so someone like Gunter won't be completely happy with it). The interpolation is on by default and isn't in the menu and hasn't been tested too much but appears to work just fine.

                            I also solved the annoying chase_active 1 and what looks like non-ProQuake format demos issue with the view being all strange. I noticed the issue was fixed in Qrack after trying to solve it myself

                            (It was more complicated to understand than I thought -- and it's great that Rook had fixed it in Qrack --- it would have taken me a great deal more time to trace thru the code to see where the angle was getting corrupted and how to fix it correctly.)

                              A few things:
                              Add support for 60FPS? My monitor only does 60, and Proquake, like Qrack, over-rides that. Proquake wants 72FPS minimum.

                              Did you fix the gl_cashe_mismatch error?

                              Some things are so small: my crosshair, the menu, chat, etc... Here is the command line I am using:
