    1. cache mismatch = fixed back in 3.60 I think. I hate getting kicked off a server for any reason and although that is so rare, I get ticked off every time it has happened.

    2. 60 FPS thing aka proper vsync -- is on my todo list.

I'm not asking you to implement this so don't feel any obligation to. I'm simply adding an idea into the pot.

Usual GL netquake clients just draw a client side player model when using chase_active. They have nothing to do with server side. So when you turn left, it's misrepresenting what other's see your player model doing (lag, ping, glitch, etc). In Darkplaces, this is fixed. You will notice that using chase_active in server will respond with the ping. So if you have 300 ping in a euro server, turning left will take a few second for the player model to kick in.

Just a thought Baker. Let me know if I wasn't being clear. Cheers

I might consider that, but I also want to avoid getting side tracked on niche bug-fixes (Quake has tons of them).

Sort of a loose concept I have trying to go by:

        1. Fix "I can't stand how annoying that is" bugs (FOV, Alt-Tab, cache mismatch, etc, etc.). I hate bugs.
        2. Don't worry about tolerable Quake bugs (WAY too many of those).
        3. Focus on total ease of use/setup.
        4. Try to work mostly on features with higher impact.

Baker, Gunter was bitching on FVF because your proquake broke his Gunter Shrine. He wants custom texture support, I suppose.

            Is Gunter's shrine a 24-bit replacement texture I assume?

Yeah, 24-bit texture support isn't in the scope of this. It isn't very ProQuakey.

            4. Not an eyecandy engine
            5. But at least you will never screw up the settings
            6. Runs on every machine in existence

It isn't 24-bit. It's a regular texture, just not a standard Quake one.

Tell Gunter that only ORL and himself use that texture because no one wants to look at an old photo of him dressed up as The Crow. ;P

cool. so now will the transparent HUD still work at lower screen sizes. I've noticed when using that transparent ibar.png, it doesn't work properly at viewsize < 90 since the number simply overwrite instead of replace.

                          Download: ProQuake 3.78 - Unofficial - Zip format - 0.9 MB

                          New additions:

                          - Change gamedir in-game. Mostly for single player or mods but maybe someone might find this useful for Threewave CTF or FvF or something. Type "gamedir zerstorer" or whatever in the console.

                          - Shift-on-the-fly brightness (CTRL and - or +) and Shift-on-the-fly viewsize using CTRL + SHIFT and -/+ since -/+ are now volume control keys.

                          - Corrected a couple of oversights. -Conwidth -conheight parameters still are not working for now.

Very playable. I am young and have good eyes so the conwidth doesn't really mean a WHOLE lot to me, just kind of hard to read. Add that and vsync and I pretty much can't find anything to complain about... even at 100fps tearing is bearable though. The only thing you could do to make it better is add QMB effects and 24-bit texture support :-)

Well, I know what you are saying but there is a view point missing.

What you are describing is the surface. There are plenty of a mods of the engine that focus mostly or only on the appearance.

What some people forget is that Quake is truly a pain in the butt. This is true of every single engine.

I want to zero on use of ease, simplicity, conveniences and killing bugs plus add a couple of breakthrough features while preserving the feel of Quake. That is what still has not quite been done right in an engine.

In time, this leads to a very interesting place. Trust me. I have funny sense of humor.
