Oops, this is corrected for the screenshot page, but they are missing from the map pack I made. I think I'll just removed the pack as QuakeInjector makes life of singlemap players much more simple.

Hey lxndr, I think people aren't really discussing this or even downloading it, because they aren't sure what is different about it Vs. Qrack. What did you add? I looked on the web site, but it isn't really specific about what you added or changed.

Hi, well there's not so many new features. I've ported some cut effects from Qrack and ezQuake, sometimes making big modifications like for the texture levels which was a grayscale effect, now you can process textures dynamically, making them brighter, darken, or grayish. I've also added some new effects from scratch, the +zoom which is inspired from TrueCombat Elite, the dynamic contrast, and the fog.

I think the good point for Quore is that every effects are meant to fit together and to be customized for creating atmospheric ambiences. For example the motion blur depends on your health level, the closer your are from dying, the blurrier is the view. I think Quore is great for playing SP maps. I wish the player could forget he is actually playing, like when you're watching a good movie.

I couldn't tell the differences between Quore and Qrack because the main one is that Qrack runs on win32 while Quore runs on Linux, which can be a problem for some Quakers

I think this is a great project, simply because it shows effort and adds another modern client to Linux. I personally dont have a linux background nor time to explore Qrack for linux as i want to. Quore is filling in that gap and all i can say is kudos!

Thanks a lot R00k. Not sure that Quore can fill that gap without one or two brains implants. For now, I would be very happy not being the only one to play with

added keycodes for controlling audio volume from a multimedia keyboard
I don't have Linux (currently) and haven't been able to check out your engine personally, but I like some of the things I see in the changelog.

You have some interesting ideas in there for sure. That's what I like about engine diversity -- different points of views and concepts being tried out.

I'm seconding what R00k and Baker say here. Unfortunately I'm likewise unable to give it a spin, but it's great to see another engine starting to take definite shape like this, and the fact that you can dedicate yourself to Linux without worrying about portability compromises means that the engine has a real reason to exist.

Best thing is, I remember back in the original QuakeSrc.org days there was a real cross-fertilisation of ideas across many different people, and some really great stuff came from it. We don't have it so much any more, but we are starting to head back in that direction, so this is another one to keep an eye on!

                          Thx for the support guys.

Portability is in the pipe, with increased limits, but for now I would like to stabilize the code and fix those many little things that are bothering me, in both the engine and real life. I've just finished merging forks I've made on two different boxes, silly me, and I wish I could release something within the coming weeks.

Following our discussion in the thread started by gnounc about a "free Quake", I started thinking about all this and I think I'll gear Quore to be less reliant on copyrighted materials. I've got some few ideas about this but I don't know how feasible they are.

I actually think it's quite fun to let go of portability concerns and be able to focus on really using some of the features of your OS of choice. It's also nice that there's a dedicated Linux-only build out there. I probably couldn't use it anyway as my main hardware chokes on OpenGL, so I'm not too concerned anyway.

Regarding limits, I'm thinking of updating the Wiki with some info on what you need to do to extend (most of) them, as soon as I start getting a test build together (which may take some time) and get some free time to work on it (which may take even longer).

Luckily, the few system specific stuff I added are optional so the engine should still be quite portable, and I've removed the assembly code which can help a lot. On the visual side, the next thing I would like to add is real time lighting, but I haven't the time nor the knowledge required, so the next release should be the last one including new visual effects.

Currently, the engine support quite big maps, I think Warpc is ok, but I've got a weird behaviour with the Soul of Evil, the player can go through block entities. Here, the wiki could serve as a faq with coders adding their solution to this kind of trouble, everyone next could save a lot of time.

It would be nice as well if all engine could speak the same language. Darkplaces seems to be the more advanced with its theoretical support for 255 players, and I remember Baker saying it has the best network stack and support for both NQ et QW. Sounds like a good standard to me.
