    You should not be embarrassed at all - it is really a great piece of work, perhaps the best I have used so far.. and that is also why I am holding out until the next one. (I love the feel of it and all the new features.)

    Without rushing or anything, any idea upon the time of the next release? Can you possibly give us a time table or a brief progress report of how much longer will it take?

    (I am just asking because I have not played Quake at all during this time, argghhh.. lol)

      Likely tomorrow, mostly because I regret the current state.

      The version tomorrow will more or less be a bug-fix release with the complete set of intended graphical elements and the cheat-free capability disabled plus the camera enhancement.

      The following version after tomorrow's will feature a mod downloader complete with menu system and will startup faster because video mode settings will no longer be stored in the config and will be loaded at start-up time [and stored in a separate file]. I don't see the following version happening until at least Tuesday.

        Download: Engine X 4.62 - 39 MB


        Changes:

        1. Centered single player status bar
        2. Big clock is off by default (will decide on appropriate feature removal later)
        3. qsecurity.dll doesn't affect engine
        4. dzip demo play capability (was disabled in prior build)
        5. includes all graphics shown in screenshots
        6. includes all required libraries (libcurl.dll; zlib1.dll)

        Doesn't fix:
        1. Rocket jump angle weirdness that can happen occasionally
        2. Anything else mentioned that I can think of

        New feature: press backspace to switch between camera views

        Last update for a few days. But far higher quality than previous ones.

                I will play alien quake with engine x but those weapons will are black.... I want use orningal weapon models..

                  This post raises a good question for future consideration, but as Engine X is in development I'm afraid the use of Engine X with heavy mods like Aliens Quake isn't in the scope of my focus and is a "self-help" use of the engine.

                  But in time I will get around to checking that mod out and seeing how I can address such issues (i.e. not use a replacement skin for a model that isn't intended).

                        This engine is fraking awesome Baker!
                        At least until something very bazaar happened... A rotweiller jumped on my head on E1M1 and killed me while I had full health.
                        Demo attached... I'm not sure if this has anthing to do with engineX.

                        Edit: I also can't figure out how to get the pain flash working... possible with the direct X version?

                            Yeah that isn't engine related. Might be something weird and uncommon that can happen in Quake and I'll ask around. I think that kind of death is most common with a fiend falling on your head --- never knew it could happen with a dog but makes sense that it could.

                            My understanding is that at the moment the pain flash doesn't work at all. It's on my list.

                            I'm glad you like the engine. It will be FAR more awesome in even future versions.

                            I have about 7 hours of free time at the moment and that means another Engine X version awaits.

                              Finally played it after removing that security dll. Pretty!

                              Not sure what things are new to this engine, I haven't played any others for the most part.

                              Wish there was some way to make the water-shadows not look so edgy/mis match on the wall edges.. not sure if that is possible or not. Water needs to be a bit more murky, too.

                              Love that shambler charge-up effect.

                              I think the green from the flying things is just a bit too neon for my tastes

                                That menu does not retain settings after exit, perhaps when you get around to it there can be a setting, for ex. fast_mode 1 where details default to min.?
