  • turbo Tenebrae version for U :)

Hello, it's my first post and I don't want to come here emptyhanded... (deleted)

on my [email protected] and GTX460 in 1920x1080 2xAA 16xAF with Mancubus pack (kudos dude for your work ) I got results like this:
    Demo1 80.8 vs 60.2 34% faster
    Demo2 86.2 vs 54.8 58% faster!!!
    Demo3 74.7 vs 53.5 39% faster

I evaluated minimal framerate and gains was from 40% up to 2x (in demo2)

ps1. ofcourse this build is Vista x64 and Win x64 friendly
ps2. if ran on some older hardware without sse2 it may crash badly...
ps3. work best with -heapsize 320000 in launcher (and wchich may seem obvious but anyway... just don't use "graphics-> force all water reflections" as it does almost nothing and cut framerate in third )

DirectQ best FPS, very good eye candy, replacement textures and runs as fast as ProQuake.

Tenebrae however easily has the best weather effects.
The fog, rain ect options are amazing something I wish Darkplaces had. It does support fog but if you enable it - the skybox is gone.

We should sue him for not releasing the source.

Nah, the GPL doesn't require you to release the source. You do have to give it if someone asks for it though, but you can give it privately and even charge for it if you want (but no more than the cost of giving it).

Expect the next DirectQ to run 2x to 5x faster in big heavily loaded scenes by the way (couldn't resist!!!)

@MH: NICE! nothing wrong with 10000fps!

@X0R: I dont trust "here's mygame.exe" from a "posts: 1" poster, without a source for me to compile myself.

I hereby request the source. ;-)
Could you also be so kind to write a short readme about what you changed and maybe a way to contact you? Thanks!

If you see 427 playing Quake thats me.

                  Not quite correct OoPpEe.
I explained how it works in DP as well here.
And you can also see the sky through the fog. You have to use the correct fog cvar together with all values (not just the first 5).
Of course no comparism to other engines simplicity in-game-menu adjustments.

                  Regards,
                  Seven

Have done that Seven. What are the variables you use as once I even change the values to all 0.1 same effect happens and the fog is basically invisible.

                        Dear OoPpEe,

maybe there is another reason for your sky becoming invisible...
... or maybe it is only my misunderstanding.

With my config it looks like this when I enable fog.
(screens showing: without / weak fog / stronger fog)

                        / /

                        / /

                        In the end:
Isnt it normal in real life that you cannot see the sky when it is foggy outside ?

Hope I could help a little.

                        Kind regards,
                        Seven

PS: This is my setting for the "weak fog":
                        "fog .3 .32 .25 .2 .6 20 2000 1500 30"

DarkPlaces is ugly, slow (yeah, lower framerate...) and it have terrible input lag too... it's more like even more laggy version of Fallout3... it's so underdeveloped I wouldn't play that s**t if they pay me money for it...

Let's get back to dark, full of bumpmapping Tenebrae Quake, only Quake port that matter for real men
It uses actually two cores (and not one like DP), have virtually no input lag even with v-sync, bumpmapping and all lights are real lights placed by ID, not some loose interpretation...

                          and here:

Why would somebody like more first shot is beyond me. Really...

About my file: it's just compiled exe, if it's full of malvare then virtualbox and bunch of av software should take care of it. And it actually work's in VirtualBox (though performance is "suboptimal", but better than original exe anyway...)

                          as for source...
                          it's here http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-hel...html#post67312

It's just a matter of proper compilation really I did similar thing like two years ago, fixed vista issue by commenting some command which raised exceptions and compiled with much lower floating point precision, aggressive auto optimization (including SSE2), without debug info and without some exception trapping. I deleted png support so console image is more "classic" now I just thought it'd be nice to contribute

Release it already please!!! All of the recent DQ releases are broken for DM.

                            I love DirectQ!

                              @XoR it's all a matter of preference.
I myself find Tenebrae to have the issue of everything looking like it's covered in plastic wrap - shot you posted even shows that.
Also helps if you make comparison shots that you use the same texture packs ect.

The other part is modding. Darkplaces supports more formats and most of all normal mapping - why one would want to use bumpmapping over that.
