TUT: Creating Rain + Snow + Fog in DarkPlaces

  • Hi folks!

    I can�t get the .ent-files running correctly, starting with E1M1. Everytime i put it into the ID\maps folder, renaming it e.g. to "e1m1.ent" i get a console error "can�t find rain_think on server" or something like this. On the start map DP shows the fog correctly. What i am doing wrong?

        • Try THIS progs.dat!!

          Just extract the zip to your ID1 folder!

              Please read the included readme.txt inside "small mod compilation",
              and you will see that you can disable/enable almost every single feature.
              That is why I made it that way.
              So that people can adjust their Quake exactly as they want it to.

                • just tried using your tut to add some rainblocks to the startmap from MP1 SoA,
                  and discovered how extremely easy it is to do

                  already added rain to sides at entrance of that map, to right before the hallway to hard, and to the first set of windows in the hallway to easy and the one after that in the same hallway. this is totally easy, think ill continue later and maybe try doing the rest too, seeing how easy it is

                  ill post the ent file for start-map of SoA once im done with it so you guys can test it and see what you think of it

                  • erm... seven... i got some prob already...

                    at the start map of SoA, i tried putting rain at the set of 3 windows at the left when you enter the hall to easy setting, but no matter what i try the rain keeps going down through the platform.
                    ive already tried setting the lowest point of the rain block to 120higher then the top of the platform but that doesnt change anything it seems, the problem still remains


                    any idea what i did wrong, and how i can fix this?

                    • MP1 SoA start map rain!

                      for anyone interested, first try at adding rain to the start-map of scourge of armagon.

                      put the start.ent file into hipnotic/maps to use it.
                      tell me what you think of it, and where i could improve the rain
                      just a first try so constructive criticism is more then welcome

                      quite happy with it myself except for a few points where the rain leaked through the ceiling, like i showed in the post above this one.
                      but no clue how to fix that, if its fixable at all

                          • Hey splitterface,
                            I ran through the start map and have to say you did a really good job! Other than the spot you mention, there are no issues. I have to say that the start map looks challenging to accomplish what you have. The spot you mention doesn't really bother me personally, but if it is fixable it will help in further maps to know how to fix it.

                              glad you think its good.

                              yeah the spot isnt really that much noticable since you dont come close past it, but still if its fixable id love to fix it. but im waiting for seven for a reply if it can be fixed.

                              used sevens tut in the first post of the thread to add the rain. been busy on it i think.... an hour or so?
                              no clue, didnt really pay attention to the time while i made it

                              was quite easy, although it took long cuz of all the checking of coordinates i had to do, and i immediately tried making sure the rain is just as heavy everywhere that way i dont have to go back and revise the rain .ent file another time.


                              totally excited about doing more now i discovered how to do it myself.
                              think ill try doing first map of episode1 of SoA later today

                              im sure the next map ill try wont take nearly as long cuz i got the hang of it now

                              • Keep up the good work!
                                I would like to see some of the more talented modders on this site provide video tutorials in the future to help those of us still struggling with confidence and/or knowledge. I know that takes time though on top of the modding. Still would be GREAT.
                                Looking forward to more ent filesfrom you. How about some fog too!
