      No problem Sean..

I experimented a little with ground fog and rain to get the best HELLISH start map I could...
That's exactly what I had in mind, thanks for the help seven..
      Soon another .ent file..

        e4m5 + end

I released a little more perfectioned versions of the e4m5 .ent files plus a .ent file for the end.bsp map with a "hellish" ambience (thanks to Seven)

Put red ground fog and a slight red rain for simulating blood falling from above..

The screenshots can't show very well the "bloody rain" falling so please try it by yourselves..

Here's the download link, hope you like it..

          Thanks for sharing!

How about some pics of some of the various heights of fog

dan - love the shots. My only recommendation would be to actually reduce the reds brightness as it's VERY bright and then also make it slightly reddish-orange - not too much or else it'd be brown. Just lean it slightly towards that.
Try: whatever is equal to 192 32 0 (rgb)

... as mentioned in my last post:
The shots will not show the in-game visual.

Even my shots from last post (hellish start map) looks different to my in-game visual/experience.

Brightness, gamma, color and other settings are all different for dani, you, gdiddy, sean and me.
So screenshots can only give a slight peak of how it will look in-game.
It will for sure look different in front of your monitor, when you play it.
I tested it here at 3 different computers.
Hell, even the monitors adjustment influences it quite much.

              So best way is:
Donwload the ent file and try it. Maybe you will like it as it is.
If not, feel free to adjust these 3 little values to match it your personal liking.

              Always remember:
When you make screenshots, they will always be much darker compared to your live playing experience.
Same goes of course with color settings.
Thats why I always brighten up my screenshots before I post them here.
Otherwise you could not see much.

              Regards,
              Seven

                Glad you like it OoPpEe..
Maybe I should reduce the fog density to make it more darker, it's a good idea, but I like the rest as it is..
But of course you can change them however you like..

Is there a way to change the rain sound for just ONE map? With the slight red rain I tried to simulate blood drops falling from above, and I think that the "heavy" rain sound doesn't matches with it..

A sewer like drops sound with echoes will be perfect for it (in my opinion)

Sadly the sounds are part of the code, to do that we'd need another code function that calls the new sounds or the other way would be to call the sounds by code. It is possible to change the sound based up map - but that again requires a QC edit.

                    • Dear all,

I need your help in finding out something:

The influence of weather effect regarding the fps (depending on the hardware).

Can you please do the following:
Start the map: "E1M4" WITH my rainy.ent (no fog) and dont do anything (dont move or look around)
Wait 5 seconds, until the fps counter (right corner) has calm down, and note your fps.
Then start the map: "E1M4" again WITHOUT my rainy.ent (no fog), wait again that the fps counter is stable and note your fps.

Please post your fps and what GPU + CPU you use.
                      Thank you very much

I think that ATI cards have much less fps reduction.

                      My values:
                      with rain: 135
                      without rain: 190
That is a drop of 29%
                      I use GTX470 + Q9550

                      • In both cases I have 60fps..

Seems that I have a limited framerate somehow.. :S

                        • Dani,

Thank you, that you wanted to help me.
Yes, you must have a maxcap somehow active.

Please type this in your console:
                          cl_maxfps

If it is set to 60, then unlock it with this:
                          cl_maxfps 0

                          Seven

                          • Yep, was set on 60..

I have 69 fps without rain and 63 fps with rain..
                            Not much difference..

                            I'm using a crappy 9500GT and a C2D E8400

                            • I tested too.

                              My values:
                              with rain: 235
                              without rain: 295
That is a drop of ~20,3%
