I went to the main page here:
    LordHavoc's DarkPlaces Quake Modification

I grabbed the first one in the 'Latest stable/official release' list.

I think I prefer the TenebraeQuake build that I previously downloaded.
It doesn't have the great textures, but it has cracking explosions, smoke and blood!
The frame rate drops to about 6-7 fps when I play Ziggurat Vertigo, though.

Also, TenebraeQuake can play mp3s really easily, which is something I cannot seem to work out how to do with the Dark Places version.
Apparently you have to make a folder titled something like 'cdtracks' and then place mp3/wav or ogg files in there.
    id/sound/cdtracks/blahblah.wav etc.
I have tried this, but it didn't work.
I want to sort this out, as I am not too keen on the diabolipak sound track pak that was in the ID folder.

I don't suppose you know how to resolve this?

    Baz.

Did you add Seven's SMC mod? So far I prefer Darkplaces.

Bad idea - the last official release has no offsetmapping in it. Try beta releases (02-03-2011 or that one october'11 release).
        These ones looks much better.

Tenebrae's particle effects are just rubbish when compared with custom darkplaces effects. Try SmallModCompilation or Seanstar's effectinfo+Nexiuz particlefont.tga and you will forget about Tenebrae.

I have tried this, but it didn't work.
You're doing it wrong somehow, music works fine for me (for example).

I recently reinstalled Quake (Qrack and Proquake) on my Windows computers, and got curious after reading this thread and figured I try some of these clients on my MacBook Pro too. Proquake GL worked fine first try. Is there a way to save/edit cfg files like on a Windows install? All I see are the two app files.

            HI LC,

I tried both builds, but they were unstable. One of them crashed after I went down the lift on map 1.
There was also strange rainbow textures on some of the brickwork.

Was it something I did wrong,as all I did was drop the id folder into the new build and began playing. (seemed sort of OK...)

I couldn't find the autobuilds from LH's Directory, as I recall him mentioning they were deleted.
I found a link to the 02-03-2011 autobuild on a forum

Maybe it is a mac only problem. Though apple was my first computer in 1994, nowadays I don't remember which type of filesystem it uses. If folders and files exists in it and are accessible for user - then you can do some thing to find out where the problem is.

There was also strange rainbow textures on some of the brickwork.
Looks like you have fire texture missed. Or even the whole fire object is missed if you see static diamond figure with rainbow texture.

The best way for you to do is to install chosen DP build in your Quake directory without any mods. If it works fine - then you can go further, if it doesn't - try another build.
Next thing to do is to install QRP packs in your id1 folder, if you can see it - try to install SMC pack and so on.
When I had the same problems as you have now I tried to make the whole new packs set, I've been adding new packs step by step and I've controlled every step by starting the game.

This build is good. Works fine for many people. Have you tried it with some mods on?

Did a DL of the build you linked above and am getting better FPS and it's stable.

What I'm missing is the particle effect that was under armour and weapon pick-ups disappeared. Not sure what changed but I can't seem to get it back.

Also acid is now looking more like water than acid and when you kick gibs into the acid they no longer fizzle they act like they're in water. How do I get acid effects back?

EDIT: I realize after searching it's referred to as 'slime' not acid.-Thanks!

                  Arrgghhh!!

I had a feeling I got your initials wrong! Apologies, FC!

                  Concerning the 020311 build:

That was one of the two that gave me trouble.
Whreras before, I had downloaded the latest official build of DP, and it worked fine, but I remember you said it had no offset mapping.

So I downloaded the 020311 build. This is where it started to go wrong.
I'll keep ahold of it, but the most official recent build seems to be working fine for me atm.

Just a minute ago, I tried removing all the mods from the 020311 version, then dropping them back in one at a time to see what could be causing the strange colour textures, and the game crash at the bottom of the lift.

I think it was the Rygel texture pack. But when I put it back in the id1 folder one last time, it worked, it didn't crash! Now that's what really winds me up, complete randomness (but, then again, I am dealing with computers, here..).

The thing is, it's been quite few years since I played Quake, so I have already made a start on a game using the official DP build, so I should just press on with that, for the moment.

                    Blimey!!

My fps goes down to 10 sometimes!
I am using RTworld. I have had to turn off the RT shadows, as this starts to disrupt my fps a bit too much.

GeForce 6600 graphics card maybe not good enough?

I have 2GB of RAM and a 2.3 dual processor, so that shouldn't be the problem (touch wood..)

With lightbeams from "Reflecting overload" pack FPS will go down to 2-3

GeForce 480GT or 560GTi is good enough Even my 9800GT is not good to run DP with all that mods without FPS falling.

DP is not so sensitive to CP and RAM. Videocard is usually a bottleneck.

Anyone with a Mac been playing user maps on Quaddicted using Quakespasm?

The reason i'm asking is because i'm having trouble.
It could be a Mac issue (or not!).

                          Iwas trying to install this:

                          arcanum.zip - Arcanum by Tronyn

I am running Quakespasm, as that is the only engine that will run these quadicted user maps on a mac.

I have a main folder with the ID, drake290111 & arcanum folders inside it.
The engine is in the main folder as well.

                          I launch Quakespasm and type:

"-game drake +map arcstart -heapsize 128000"

                          All i get is this:

And when I start the game, it is not the arcanum maps, it is just..normal "Quake", slipgate complex etc.
                          What's going on?
Is there anyone with a Mac that has got this to work?
If 'yes', then i know the problem is me, and that will give me something to workaround.

I can't figure out how to insert images from my desktop, either.

                            Whoow,

I did not see this thread at all before....

                            @ MaxxAmmo,
The build from february 3rd 2011 does not work if you want to see the small mod compilation effects.
I described it in detail here
                            Please read that post carefully.
Please find the DP build for MAc there.

                            @ peter tron
if you have issues because the MAC OS cannot use/understand shortcuts, then please this thread carefully.
It deals with the exact same issue and gives you answers to solve it.

                            Best wishes,
                            Seven

                              Hey Seven,

                              Thanks for answering.
I recently discovered the thread concerning deactivating the demos recently.
I'm glad to report I followed the instructions and I disabled them just fine!
A very simple and painless process which a novice/intermediate (such as myself!) could understand.

Now I just need to sort out customising .ent files for music & getting user maps to load using Quakspasm.

I'm not getting ground fog on e1m2.
I have Seven's v3.61 small mod comp, and I have looked at the .ent file:

                                "fog" "1 .3 .25 .2 1 20 2000 265 50"

                                Still no ground fog.

                                Any ideas?
