The structure of the Quake folder needs to be like this:
Hopefully your Quake folder is on your Desktop
Desktop / Quake /
Desktop / Quake / QuakeSpasm
Desktop / Quake / id1 /
Desktop / Quake / id1 / pak0.pak
Desktop / Quake / id1 / pak1.pak
Desktop / Quake / drake
Desktop / Quake / drake / all the Drake files and folders
A common mistake problem is putting say, Drake.zip in the Quake folder and then double clicking it to unarchive.
Then you might have something ilke ...
Desktop / Quake / drake / drake / the drake files
And Quake can't find it because the "drake" folder is empty. Well, except for the other drake folder that is in it. That is probably the origin of your frustrations with trying to get Drake to run.Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. Cheers for that, Baker,
It's nice to see some concise instructions on how/where to place files/folders for a successful installation.
I managed to get Arcanum working a few days ago, and with that knowledge I tackled 'Quoth', '5 Rivers' & 'Soul Of Evil'. All of which I managed to get running.
I admit that I didn't get them all to run the first time, but I am starting to understand the correct folder structures.
I have also re-downloaded DP, and I am experimenting with folders/mods, by dragging folders/mods out and then placing them back in to the DP directory to see what particular effect they have.
When I'm done with Arcanum, I'm gonna hassle people with questions concerning 'Nehahra'!
I have managed to get 'MacNehahra' running, but there are 'issues' with 'mouselook' not functioning."There ain't no Devil, son, that's just GOD when he's drunk!"

Hi Baker,
This is my folder structure for Zerstorer:
Desktop / Zerstorer /
Desktop / Zerstorer / QuakeSpasm
Desktop / Zerstorer / id1 /
Desktop / Zerstorer / id1 / pak0.pak
Desktop / Zerstorer / id1 / pak1.pak
Desktop / Zerstorer / zer
Desktop / Zerstorer / zer / all the zer files
As mentioned in our last chat, I downloaded the 1.1 patch from Quaddicted
and replaced the 'PROGS.DAT' & 'QWPROGS.DAT' files with the new lower-case ones from the patch.
This all seems correct and above board..
Any ideas?

Do a screenshot of Zerstorer / zer folder doing "Command-Shift-3" and upload to quaketastic.com password: ilovetheshubhub and post link in this thread.Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. I need a screenshot of your Zerstorer / id1 folder. With the view that shows the file size of the files in there.

I see a couple of problems here.
1. I am betting you cannot start Quake at all. What happens when you start Quakespasm without a command line? I bet it has that same message about gfx.wad.
2. Why do your pak0.pak and pak1.pak files say archive? This implies they are a zip file or something and not decompressed.
3. Why are your pak0.pak and pak1.pak files not the right size?
There aren't different versions of the standard Quake file pak files. Here is a shot of my folder. Note that your sizes do not match the pak file sizes in my screenshot. Whatever you have in your id1 folder, it is not the standard pak0.pak and pak1.pak files that come with Quake and they also do not appear to be decompressed.
Likely you cannot start Quake at all.
Since your "pak files" are smaller than mine, I would say they are zip files. You need to extract your pak0.pak and pak1.pak files and make sure they are in the id1 folder and do not say "Archive" and then start Quakespasm.Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. I fixed it!
Who would have thought it was just a simple case of spelling a game correctly on a directory folder that was causing the problem?
"Zerstrer", with the accentation "" causing the problem.
I realized when I tried to launch standard Quake by leaving the command line box blank (nothing).
I tried another user map mod with the same ID1 folder, left the box blank, and it worked, so I knew it wasn't the PAK files.
(Well, we knew that anyway, as all my other mods/maps and DP were all quite happily running from the same ID1 folder these last few weeks).
Something made me think about renaming the folder, as accented text can cause problems.
That was it!
1. The reason that my PAK files were called 'archive' in the image was because I had tried to open them with a Mac program called 'The Unarchiver'.
I set it so that all PAK's were to be opened by this program by default (hence the icon image).
It didn't work.
I realize that to someone else, they appeared to be zipped/compressed, but they're not.
2. As for the size:
I'm not sure. Even the 'Quake106 Shareware' PAK0.PAK is 17.8MB (the same size as mine).
I could mention this to Spirit, in the (hopefully!) unlikely case that someone else happens to label their main "Zerstrer" folder correctly and thus cannot get it to run."There ain't no Devil, son, that's just GOD when he's drunk!"

MacNehahra
I stumbled across this version of Nehahra for the Mac on Source Forge.
I got it to work OK with the PAKs over @ Quaddicted, but do the PAKs @ quaddicted work best on either QS or DP?
Is Nehahra on DP or QS superior to the MacNehahra post?"There ain't no Devil, son, that's just GOD when he's drunk!"

I don't think either Quakespasm nor DarkPlaces would run Nehahra very well, but you can try it an see what happens.
But as a general rule of thumb, people play Nehahra with an engine with specific Nehahra support (Nehahra requires some engine modifications to work right).
And the special engines for Nehahra come with Nehahra. But those are Windows executables.
And you might find you cannot run MacNehahra .... the date of the files seem to be 2002. That's old Mac Power PC processor (not Intel chip) which I do not think are supported for OS X in any version after 10.5, but maybe I'm wrong.Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages.
