"SynQ" Experiments - Not to be Taken Literally

Don't take the Nexuiz weapon model literally, it is mostly in there to mentally picture the concept of updated weapon models. And ignore the FPS, I had my inferior video card on a higher resolution setting

A total conversion of the multiplayer aspect of the game does not have to look anything like 1996 or even 2006.

The goal of this project isn't to make a free and legal "crappy substitute" for online play; the goal of this project is to bring the state of the game to meet 2010 gaming standards.

I was playing around with DM6 and more or less looking over textures, thinking and looking at Nexuiz and OpenArena for ideas/concepts.

In the case of Nexuiz, it *IS* DarkPlaces and more or less thinking about what capabilities are in DarkPlaces and other modified Quake engines. Engine-specific features are ok as long as it "degrades gracefully" in a non-supporting engine.

In the case of Open Arena, I was looking mostly at the map texture work and trying to determine why Quake looks so bad, but Quake 3 looks so good. Side note: I also noticed the artwork is exceptional, OpenArena is extremely nice; anyone who hasn't seen it should check it out. It has REALLY evolved since the last time I looked at it.

I just wanted to post some screenshots after doing some experiments.

Your texturing of DM6 seems like it would look zany in DrLabman's engine.

What the hell are 2010 gaming standards?

Those medkits look like a Japanese take on a bag of Doritos on acid.

trying to determine why Quake looks so bad, but Quake 3 looks so good
erm? Granted I think Q3A does look good, and like it - but I also dont think Quake looks bad, not with its native textures...

I'm personally excited about both this project and the OQ+ project (so long as both are legal), and maybe the possibility of the two working together, if for no other reason than that each and every Quake mod could be standalone. That would be really cool.

As for the style of the textures and all that, the medkits look... nevermind. The rest of it looks pretty good though. I wouldn't even mind having a Nexuiz model or two in the pack, 'cept that not all engines support that model format. Vr2 does, and DarkPlaces does, among several, though.

So, when can we expect to see a new release of this pack?

        It looks Good, very good

Does it Support 1920x1080 HD Resolution, Like Darkplaces?

I use Ubutnu 11.04 and Windows 7 on my Computer.

If you run it in DarkPlaces, it does.
To my understanding, this isn't an engine, it's a pack of maps, textures, etc. so it can be run in any Quake engine that supports the things it chooses to include (this may include md3 models, hi-res textures, etc).

That's the #1 priority of this project, keeping everything clean and acceptable to id Software.

I will probably every once in a while ask them questions for comments, but I don't want to annoy them with a high frequency of doing this either.

Based on past conversations with them, in addition to the more recent one where I was told this was ok based on my description, I think this should not be a problem at all.

So, when can we expect to see a new release of this pack?
As soon as possible. I want the next one to be a large improvement over the first one.

It won't look like these. It is a trial of a tool I developed to make it so I can manually retexture a map in under a minute via drag-drop.

Doesn't mean the textures will go together -- that will take a LOT of time, but it means the retexturing process will be dramatically increased in speed.

                        dm3 kinda works
dm2 now reminds me of the UT domination map, the Olden Aquifier or whanot.

The dm3 experiments thing looks pretty nice, actually. The texturing is consistent, and looks pretty nice. /me waits eagerly

Baker, is everything from shareware quake freegame to use? What are the limitations on the textures/models you can use, ie, are the textures/models from the retexuring project available to use?
