      • Hmmm yeah, the grid works better with the symmetry of the W, and it looks better thinner too. I see you also added it to the black version. Subtle but it does add a little more texture to it. Better than without.

        It's not that, I perfectly understood what you meant, hence the I started with. I just felt I needed to reply something, but it fell kinda flat. Not funny and I agree, much too literal. I guess inspiration eluded me on this one...

        • sigh...drop shadows, bevels...I told you I could do this for the rest of my life. AT least I finally realized the main thing that was bugging me. The W was too flat. Let's just pretend there are two "ors" here so I don't have to keep hiding layers and exporting other versions.

          re: This is how I started my day...lol

          and let's not forget this "masterpiece" (of shit)

          I reposted those cause:
          1) people like dutch and others aren't gonna read these million posts
          2) If you refuse to give up, no matter how crappy your work is, it will come together. I spent an entire day on this, went through like 5 ideas and IMO the most recent version is pretty damn good. I can see where it still needs a tune up but even if I did nothing more this would totally fly.

          FUN FACT: I'm drawing all this in Adobe Flash Professional CS6. And technically, I could write the code that draws all this shit for me cause the interface is totally mirrored in the code API. But boy, that would be some real annoying lineTo, curveTo calls. DRop shadows, circles, bevels, layering, all that would be easy. The grid would be mildly annoying but I would just code the horizontal, create a clone and rotate it (which is how I did it in the flash ide, too). The W would be a pain in the ass. Well, I guess it doesn't have to be. I could just write down all the x/y points and then type them in.

              Wellllll, I don't know about all that. I mean, definitely Thank You! I just don't feel like it's pro material personally. If I had to give myself an honest grade, I would say it's about a 6 maybe leaning toward a 7. I'm hyper critical though so who knows, maybe it's better than I think. Unless that's a black planet getting hit by some hella red light..it doesn't even make sense. Cause the alternative is, it's a red planet with light on top of shadow...LOL. And if it is a black planet why isn't the red light hitting the letter and how the hell is the letter casting a shadow on the extreme red light?. Not pro.

              I absolutely appreciate your opinion though. Luckily, it doesn't have to make sense. It just needs to look good.

                  OOOOOOH.,..bitmap trace! The same way I converted the unreal logo. I need to actually make 1 bigger version, export it, find some high quality trace settings and then I should be able to resize with quality. Yep...that's the solution and it's way fuckin better than remaking this a bunch of times.

                    • @solution

                      Of course! I spend 100% of my time having to critically think and create solutions based on whatever my resources are.

                      Here's some proof. (down from 512x512 utilizing trace bitmap)

                      vs before

                      right?

                      It was simple. I sized all the way up to 512x512 and adjusted my filters (bevel, drop-shadow, etc) for the new size. I then exported as PNG with the most raw settings possible (no dithering, smoothing, paeth, etc). I then reimported and used trace bitmap with practically crash settings they were so ridiculous. When the trace was over I shoved it in a sprite so my computer would stop crying about 512*512 vectors (cause yeah I made every fucking pixel a vector) and then simply scaled it down and re-exported...ta-daa.

                      It's not perfect but, I feel it is sufficient. My detail has mostly remained and I don't have any strange artifacts. Also, Imgur does stuff to the images you upload, the version on my computer is a hair better than the one here.

                      @swear words -

                      I got the idea from the walking dead. Rich is always saying stuff like "bitch nuts". I saw a behind the scenes and he explained that they had dice with random stuff written on them and before a scene they would roll the dice to see what "curse" he was going to say. I just wrote a bunch of words on paper and gave them a number. It's mostly "dirty" words and food. If you have at least 1 di or some way to generate a random number and a piece of paper or equivalent, you too can have custom curse words like :rwd: pie-dong.

                      • Yeah, much better. You lose a little shininess on the beveled edges but I guess it's good enough for an app icon. Or for a better result, wouldn't it be possible to remove the bevel, resize to every size you need and re-apply the bevel on each version? Easier than rebuilding from scratch and probably better looking than this solution.

                          @your idea about remove, resize and reapply

                          No, it's not just bevels, it's all filters and there are other things too. Bevel was just the one thing out of all of that which was completely destroying my image when resized. The rest was just messing it up a bit. Also, I wouldn't have to remove the bevel and then reapply. The closest thing to your solution would be to resize and readjust...EVERYTHING. My solution is better....easier....good enough.

                          @easier than rebuilding from scratch
                          No, it's the exact same thing. To rebuild I would have made numerous clones and adjusted all the filters, gradients and lines. My method is the one. And there is no guarantee it would have looked any different than it looks now. Ratios, my friend. At some point bevel will completely disappear cause the ratio is less than the smallest amount that can be drawn.

                          note, the pink border on my app is some windows crap where it takes the average color of my desktop image (or summin like that) and applies it to all borders. I know I have to be close to right cause when I had transitioning wallpapers my water scenes would turn the borders blue, my grass scenes would turn it green...In other words having a pink border wasn't some choice I made.

                              This logo is badass. Its exactly what I meant by clean, simple and unmistakable. Me personally, I like the gridlines in the darker area to have just a hint of gray. I would also darken the red a shade or two. But I wouldn't change anything else, and in fact the current version looks awesome enough to just leave it be for fear of re-entering the "scrap this shit, it isn't good enough" stage that I often find myself in.
