WorldSpawn official WIP thread

  • IDK...I had an idea where there was a representation of the planet in a color way and worldspawn was stamped into it revealing the mantle and core. I know this looks like ::rolls word dice:: - ass-fruit (?lol) but, it'll be better one day. I'm going back to programming for the day.



    I bet all this really needs is a little texture and maybe some detail seperating the core from the mantle. Just that would at least make a big difference.

    • You'll also need the text to follow the curvature of the planet... and maybe change the font? This one seems a little unremarkable - too common.

      Edit: TBH, I don't think a logo with text in it is a very good idea. It will make an unreadable jumble in small pictures like icons or thumbnails. Dutch is right: it needs to be simple and iconic, like the Unreal logo or your previous swirl test.

      • yeah I agree about all that except using text being bad. Look at my avatar. Is there something jumbled or unreadable about the letters? Honestly, I'm considering just using the text and forget about the rest. In the case of the icon for the executable image, just use a big W.

        @iconic - naaaah. My engine isn't Unreal4. Imagine if my engine had an Unreal4 style logo. That's way too fancy and ridiculous and doesn't represent my engine at all. Really, the text in my avatar, exactly how it is is probably perfect. Maybe change the "O" to a mesh sphere, done.

          *the unreal logo looks all weird cause I converted it to a vector and removed all bounding white. Cause that was the easiest way to get the medallion. It's just an example. Actually, if I would have taken the time to cut it out and keep it perfect it would seem even more ridiculous in comparison to my engine.

          • done. I might change colors or summin but this is it. It's interesting to note what you can accomplish in like 5 seconds when you are completely fed up with something. I actually tend to work better in a state of being completely fed up. I know it isn't amazing. It's clean & simple. Anybody with a negative opinion is more than welcome to show me their awesome version.

            • Keep in mind you're gearing this engine towards Android. Do you see many apps with text as a logo? Nope, and there's a reason for that: readability at first glance. Yes, I can read WorldSpawn in your avatar fine, even on my phone if I pay attention to it, but it's a bit nondescript compared to a simplified logo a la Unreal, or even the Android logo itself.

              Edit: Ah, you made your last post while I was typing mine. See? It's a perfect illustration of what I was saying. The logo above the name is already much more readable than the name itself, and it will fit with the style of mobile app icons.

                      Even though it looks like I reused some stuff, I actually didn't. I started with the W and then layer by layer drew the rest behind it. I decided on "apocalyptic" as the theme...instead of "craigslist". lol

                      If I ever get this shit to look good I'll get shirts made and anybody that wants one can have one for the price of S&H. I'm not afraid to lose a couple hundred bucks clothing "you" with my not-even-done-yet-engine logo.

                      I wonder what it would look like if I used this as a particle for something. Probably shitty. Let's find out.

                      I think I really am done. It's clean, vivid, "iconic" and simple. Probably too "sharp" for my engine but, I could spend the rest of my life on this crap.

                            One would think it's the one you chose as avatar. It retains almost nothing of the original idea but looks badass. The alt version looks good too, a little less badass but more in line with the "mesh world" concept. I tend to prefer A but it may be more suited to the game you'll make with it than to the engine itself, dunno. The grid looks good on the grey background but a bit odd against the red part. {IDEA} Try to fade the grid progressively in the red part? The more intense the red, the less visible the grid.
