First off: QUAKE REFORGED is an insanely exciting project. Thank you for revitalizing Quake to this degree! The single-player game will indeed feel like a new experience.
One question though: On your bestiary page, I don't see any links (for instance, to the previews you've posted on the News page). All I see are gifs of the original Quake skins... Then you've mentioned that the single package will include only slightly changed skins. Are these the ones I am seeing gifs of?
Personally I don't see why you two should waste time doing only slight variations, as I think in the end everyone is going to want the highest quality skins they can get.
Thanks Ovarylord, it's nice to see "new" quake adepts here
BTW, I'd like to see if we're all quake-veterans or there're some young newcomers...
Quake Reforged is an huge project and it seems that we're taking ages to complete it maybe because we made the announcement right at the beginning, even if there wasn't other solutions if we wanted support and valuable feedback.
As you can see, gifs depict the original monsters, because this way they are more recognizable and because we're WIP... Right now, only the previewed monsters are available.
Our main task now is to finish* the first series of skins, then we'll see for alternative versions. Variations are much more easier to do and are a lot less time consuming, but their main reason to exist is to be used thanks to a mod one of user here is making.
*Actually all monsters have at least a new hi-def skin, but we're improving over the less convincing ones (es. enforcer), after listening to your comments.
First of all, congratulations, you're doing an amazing work. Keep it up!
I was reading your tech guide (great guide, btw) and it seems you missed Ruohis' model pack (more information here: QuakeWorld.nu Forum / I'm back ). Although his site has been down for a while, there's a link to download on the last page of the thread. Check it up, it's a great pack.
I have some questions regarding the re-texturing of both mission packs. this will all match the QRP package right? I already have some Hipnotic textures that my buddy Dregs made that are faithful to to the style of QRP.
he mainly remade these textures, because they are used a lot in Thunderwalker maps
htek02_1
htek02_2
sym02_2
sym_04_1
so there's a head start for Scourge of Armagon, surely you guys can use that as long as Dregs is credited.
I must say it's looking pretty good to me the origional quake is better but great job so far. I do have one question Quake Mission Pack two: Dissolution of Eternity supposed to have a hell-spawn but I looked everywhere for it but no-info. Anyway yeah looking sharp
Indeed impressive work. Will it work with Tenebrae too ?
Tenebrae is non-standard so if anything that conforms to accepted standards from every other engine works it should be considered a bonus. If I remember correctly, and bear in mind that it's a long time since I've looked at Tenebrae, you may get some mileage from moving textures from a "textures" directory to an "override" one (creating it yourself if required), and possibly renaming them to conform to any differences in the naming convention.
I don't even know if Tenebrae supports external alias model skins, but if it does the same move and rename approach should work. But be aware that you'll need to do this yourself. The designers have a choice between either supporting what every other engine does, or supporting what one single wildcard from the year 2001 which went off and did it's own thing and to hell with compatibility does.
Up until last week I hadn't played Quake since I was a kid. I reloaded it and downloaded rygel's pack and DP which took quake to graphics I never imaged possible in Quake. Then I saw this thread, and made an account just to comment... and allow me to say... HOLY FUCK these look amazing guys, Can't wait to see the final release in action!!

Indeed I am old school. I remember firing up the first shareware on its release day, then threewave when flags were keys. I mainly played on the MPlayer service as QM Overlord666 (bwahaha). I was involved in a few projects such as QMovie (Quake movie-making mod with cameras and scripted actors), though I can't claim to have accomplished much in comparison to the people I was working with. On QuakeOne I've resurrected the nickname I got over time from my (Quake) friends in respect to the sheer ridiculousness of my original name. Feel free to call me Ovy, though. I prefer it in polite conversation and bitz, if you're out there, holla back!
I'm certain that your project, upon completion, will attract many old fans back, and ignite a great deal of interest in new comers as well.

Glad you have! As you can see, the people are excited already

!!! Maybe you could be the biggest Santas and release a preview pk3 for Christmas? Just a thought
[Edit: Slight difference between QuakeOne and QuakeLive, where I am xXceaslessXx.
BTW: Alfader & Nergal, some news? Whats the current progress?
It's shaping up well and it's still fun to do
Maybe you could be the biggest Santas and release a preview pk3 for Christmas?
Good idea
Let's do it this way: try to guess which character we'll release next and who get it right will receive the pk3 with the skin (colormap/luma/gloss/normal..).
You can choose only two monsters to enter this "Christmas Contest", just write a post with the names below.
(Quake1 monsters only, so you have 2 chances out of 15, not bad)
Deal?
Quake Reforged
Retexturing and Reskinning project for Quake, Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity
I think you will release the fiend or the shambler if you release something really new and not shown to us before in older screenshots or older state ;-)
