When I locate it I'll post a link to the source and sketch the rough easy outline of how it would work for monsters. Someone could make a modified progs.dat to support your pain skins for monsters idea easily (not me --- I'm not into QuakeC enough to do it ... well I probably could ... but I have way too little free time right now).
Just in case it helps you guys out:
You should find a copy of the source here. If not then PM me and I'll find a way of getting it to you.
I seem to recall I've got a version of this site as an archive and could put up a temporary webby for you to grab the file if necessary.

Baker's right in that the pain skins are focused on the players models only within the default mod. I'm sure with a bit of editing and judicious cutting and pasting a Quake C coder could apply it to the monsters. I also recall a convo with the mighty R00k hypothesising on the possibility of having some sort of damage overlay based on the area of the opponent hit which is also another interesting possibility you may wish to explore as an alternative.

      Hope this helps

      • Hello BEEF34T3R to the problem of torches, I suggest you to apply this .PK3 in the quake folder (http://shub-hub.com/files/gfx/Footst...ilposition.zip) ... I wrote something also in the teach guides of quake reforged site(Quake Reforged - Tech Guide)....

I also had these problems ... I have replaced the torches with those in the tech guides quake reforged, maybe try to replace them with those contained in the. pak of quake\id1 folder, for the skybox can only replaced by a static ones, to the textures of the teleporters I recommend you use those in the http://facelift.quakedev.com/retexture/ textures pack.

                • @Nergal Ok, thanks, i moved that post here: http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-hel...ing-packs.html

@Alfader - thanks for the reply, but that fix adds dpmod's 2D sprites, while i'd like to bring back original Quake 3D fire.

                  • I played with all your skins now...me for myself has to say, that I like the new mainskins most. The alternative versions are nice too no question...but something was putting them behind the main ones.
Where I am sure about this (for my taste), is the enforcer. The earlier released enforcer-skin fits way better into Quake than the alternative one in my oppinion. I like the rotting look of it compared to the more techy look of the alternative enforcer.

But at the end...all skins give so much to quake. I definately will donate too if you give us the option to do so.

Keep up your awesome work and thanks for the cookies you gave us

                    Cheers

                    • I really like all the hard work you guys've all put into Reforged,
but I'd like the monster skins more if they were more faithful to the originals

                      Don't take this the wrong way, but I've seen the enforcer, vore and others from Quake Reforged - Bestiary;
they look very different from stock Quake's

                      • That's one reason why I like them. They are fresh and breath new life into the graphics. That's one thing I especially like about the Ogre skin for example. There are high res packs in the past that I didn't like because they weren't faithful. But this is different for me. The old skins are worn out even updated to high res like in fragger's pack (no offense to him I think he did a good job). This brings back the creepy. I'm using both right now (fragger's for the reforged skins not available yet) but I fully intend on replacing them all with reforged skins... and I'm one of those people who ordered Quake when it first came out.

By the way both enforcers are great but I myself actually like the alternate enforcer better. But I wouldn't mind if there was a way to load up all the different versions of each skin and have them randomly be applied to monsters in a level.

                        • Finally played with the skins and they are FANTASTIC!
(so you know, I've extracted the Vore (beaut!) and the primary Scrag (the one with the lamprey face- yikes- you almost expect him to hover over, suck onto you and start drinking your blood!)
I'm about to switch around the enforcer skin (although I'm reluctant because the first one is just so nice already- I will carefully make backups before I do anything else!)

                          SOOO TRUE......
Although I was thinking instead of random generation- why not save the alt skins for some of the alt versions of monsters in other mods (especially Quoth- with two types of grunt and four kinds of enforcers? I can already picture the Camo-Green skin to the Defender, the earlier yellowy-armoured suit to the Pyro, and the polished White suit to the Eliminator? (a more space-age individual))!!!

I swear guys, this old 95 game is starting to look DANGEROUSLY modern!
