yeah, cuz its actual real easy to add rain, and often you can cheat a bit with size of rainblocks without that its noticable

      EPISODE 1 OF SOA DONE

just noticed i got episode 1 of SoA completely done now

never expected id be able to complete them so quickly, thought it would take lot longer. glad the first episode is done, big milestone for me, and it feels good to have contributed this much already

ive also upload a pk3 with rain for episode1 , check the first post of the thread for the link

and... ill start on episode 2 tomorrow
so make sure to check tomorrow for more rain-maps to come

btw people, please keep testing them to see if you can find points to improve on, pieces i mightve forgotten without realizing, or if you can find leaks which i didnt notice which might be solvable. sadly leaking cant be solved for rain falls which on thin platforms, but any other leaks you find, please post it if you find any with pics so i can see where they are and so i can see how to fix them, or at least make them as less obvious as possible

started on episode 2 of SoA today after having finished episode 1 yesterday

just finished a bit ago, check it out

link like usual in first post of this thread

also added some screenshots to first post so people can see how the rain looks like in-game
although some still pics of course dont do it justice, a still pic doesnt compare to how it looks like when you actually see it rain in-game

          Slowly slowly splitterface.

You are not in a rush !
Always remember, that your files wil be used for the next years, so they should be of high quality.
Take your time. Rome wasnt build in a day.

It took me several weeks to make an episode.
Quality is more important then speed or quantity.

You should check your files a little better before release them.
I looked into your hip1m3 and was really suprised.
Why did you release it same this ?
          It rains almost everywhere inside.
I only changed one coordinate and the rain leakage was gone in many rooms.

Please, please dont get me wrong.
We are more than thankful that you are doing weather .ent files.
But please take your time and check your files before release.
Again, we are not in a rush here

          Screen comparism:
          The released hip1m3:

          hip1m3 with changed coordinate:

          -------------

          Another very important thing:
I hope that you use this list for the maps:
As you see, there is lava in several hipnotic maps.
Also in hip1m3 (the map, that I speak about above).
If you see lava, you should include the flying ash effect there.
It is an extremely beautiful visual feature !
Please use the linked .ent file to see what i mean in e1m7.
          It looks really wonderful.
Dani also included it into e4m5 + e4m8, but he used another velocity and color.
I personaly think that it should be a little slower and more reddish,
that is why I attached the .ent for e1m7 for you.

Please dont get me wrong splitterface.
I am more than happy that you are doing hipnotic episodes.

          Best wishes,
          Seven

PS: Maybe I should just shut up.

hrm,.... that is weird.... i myself didnt get this leakage at all at the place which you posted when i tested it

this is how it looks on my screen, no leaks, and im using the rain file i released...
thats strange, that you get leaks there while i dont. when i use the same ent file i released i dont get leaks inside

but they are just test versions, they are not in any way meant as final releases of course. thats why i keep repeating in allmost every post for people to test them
so that people can point out if they find leaks or such
            .

              Hello splitterface,

              Thank you for your answer.
Due to the reason, you said you dont have the issue, I went down and searched for the root cause.
First I started with a fresh config, but issue stayed the same.
Then I remembered, that you use a different DarkPlaces build and I used that one:
              Issue gone

That proofs, that LordHavoc and friends improved the related engine code.
              That is a GOOD thing.
Then I tried the last beta from september 2011 and issue still gone.

              To summarize it:
              It is DP build depending.
Newer builds are less sensitive regarding the leakage issue.
So, if you use newer builds, you will have less problems with it.
That means for you: Continue with DP build from july 2nd.
There is no difference to DP build from today regarding weather behaviour (except better performance of course).

I knew, I should have better shut up.
(at least this point is cleared now)

              ----------

Did you test e1m7 in the meantime ?
What do you think of it ?
Would be nice if you could implement it into hipnotic maps.

              Kind regards,
              Seven.

ah yes. that indeed explains why you get leaking while i dont

i kinda thought to ask what build you used cuz i had a hunch the problem might have to do with which build you use. i wanted to ask in my last post which build you use but after all i didnt cuz i thought maybe the problem wasnt there, but it does depend on the build you use after all

and yes. it is indeed great that lordhavoc improved the weather code so you dont get as much leaks as before in newer builds

yeah i tried the e1m7 flying ash you gave me and love it, its indeed an amazing effect! and i would love to add that to SoA

only had one question though: is it possible to make the uprising ash be cut off after a certain time or such? cuz i tried adding it to one of lava-pits in hip1m3 which is way below the level where the player is, but the ash rises up all the way untill it hits the ceiling instead of only rising up to a certain height.
or is this due to the fact that it uses the snow generator and unfixable?

its not really a problem since it looks awesome either way, but it would be cool if it could somehow be set to only rise a certain height and then dissapear instead of continue rising up untill it hits anything
                .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?

                  Hello splitterface,

First of all: Your screenshots are much too dark.
We cannot see any details on them.
You should know that the screenshots you make in DP are always darker as the screen is in-game.
That is why most people here brighten them up, before posting them.
That will give us the chance to see what you want us to see

                  Regarding snow:
It is the same as with rain. The particle vanishes as soon as it "hits" a mesh.
The good thing about snow is, that you will NEVER EVER have any leakages.
It doesnt matter how "thick" the mesh is, the snow flakes will vanish at once.
But I think you already read this in the TUT thread...

                  All the Best,
                  Seven

just finished hip2m2 a bit ago, which also features the lovely flying ash effect which seven was so kind to and show me how to add
just look at the room where the floor drops into the lava if you stray from the path to see it

link as usual in first post of this thread

EDIT: HIP1M3 is now updated too to add the great flying ash effect at the few lava-parts in the mines
and ive also updated the complete episode1 pk3 to include the new HIP1M3 right away

just added HIP2M4 which i just finished a bit ago

HIP2M3 has no outside areas and also no windows or such, so no rain needed in that map

i will however try and add the flying ash effect to the lava areas there, but ill try another time since its quite complicated cuz of the strange shapes of the areas with lava and ill have to figure out how i can add ash there without having to use a 100 blocks or such, which wont work cuz that way the ash effect would be real intense, which we of course dont want
                        .

sorry for not posting new rain .ent files for a few days, but ive been busy with other stuff rather then quake last few days.

i did however from time to time work a little bit on HIP2M6, and a bit ago i continued work on it and finished what was left till that level was done too

added download link for HIP2M6 to the list in first post of thread

I would like to test your ent files, but when I am trying to load the start map, I get this error:

                              PRVM_ED_PARSEEPAIR: Can't find function RAIN_THINK in server
                              HOST_ERROR: PRVM_ED_PARSEEDICT: Parse error

Does anyone know what may cause this? I see someone already reported this error a while back in the DP Particle Flames thread, but no explicit solution was given.

                                hmm i wouldnt know...
all i could think of is perhaps you got other add-ons which have a progs.dat which overrides the one from the small mod compilation?

although im not really familiar with QC, and dont know about such stuff

but it sounds like that might be the problem, cuz it seems that your quake doesnt recognise the code for the rain-blocks, which might be due to the fact that maybe you got another add-on which has a progs.dat.

just a guess, i might be wrong, dont know much about quake yet. but something like that would be my guess
                                .
