Wow, I definitely cannot wait to see how the production of this goes.

If I could help, I would, but being stretched across several projects right now makes this very difficult for me.

But I wish you the best of luck.

          More E1M5 progress...

The geometry still needs a bit more work and all the panel textures are just place-holders.

tbh the geometry of the levels itself doesn't do it for me.

I still see a lot of really blocky stuff, rectangular holes where corridors connect and large flat floor brushes.

There are also a lot of misaligned textures.

And tbh the lighting needs a lot of work. Half the time it isn't clear where the light is actually coming from. Like here:

There are no light sources in there! Where is all the light coming from?

We're already aware of most of what you pointed out which is why it's been clearly stated several times that the level is still being worked on. It's a fair point you have on the lighting but I should have made it more clear that the lighting in the screenshot you've pointed out has been unmodified from the original map so that's my mistake there...

As for the geometry, as said above I've already stated that it's still being worked on and I've already shared the same criticism about it to Eukos. And yes, we're already aware that there are a lot of misaligned textures, so again this is my mistake on not making things more clear and I apologise if I've caused any confusion regarding the quality of our work.

That was one of the shots created to mainly show off the new textures being worked on for the level and as you can see in the recent shots I redid all the lighting completely. I have been spending most of my time making additions to the geometry that make sense and fit into the overall tone of the game, and right now, I can assure you that there are only lights that have an actual visible source currently in the map.

May I add however that we are not trying to make a modern day remake of Daikatana here and we're not trying to make something that appears like a modern day game, but a recreation of something that was in development back in 1997. So please don't mind the blocky geometry, it is our pure intention to leave most of it like that since it's a stylistic decision.

                    Hello,

I also like your new screenshots very much.
The "dirty" textures and the dark ambience.
The "greenish" lights gives this game its unique style.
                    Great work !
Some shots reminds me of Unreal, which is good.

                    Hello eukos,

                    Thank you for your words.
That is a great decision you made.
It should keep the original style and not try to be a modern clone which would lose its flair and spirit.
I like your team and attitude.

                    Best wishes,
                    Seven

                    • Seven summed it up beautifully so I cant really add much to that. But just to echo that sentiment I must say that this looks very promising and this is certainly on my "one to watch list" .

Keep up the good work guys I can't wait to explore those levels [ with or without obvious light sources ].

                      Kind regards

                      Monty

What are they gonna do with $6.23 and a bubblegum wrapper? . Everyone on the team gets 1 gas station coffee. Good thing it's probably gonna be free.

                              • I get so bored that my only form of entertainment is screwing with what people say I try to be good and write tutorials or something instead, but we all see where that ends up...

                                thanks for being a sport!

edit: and just for the record, I would like you even if you were totally broke
