  • Best Xtreme preformance PC

What's the best gaming PC for NextGen games?

    Cost is not a problem,
but I don't want to spend $8000 on a PC that doesn't meet my expectations.

    Alienware... anything better?
I heard of Widowpc, is there anything else?
I'm kinda lookin' for liquid cooling too

alienware is uh, over priced brah . its best to build your own.
    my builds were around $400-500
not sure about next generation games, brah there are no games better than quake,
you don't really need liquid cooling brah

It's best to build your own. I can throw togeather a list of good parts if you want.

Diminishing returns set in real quick when you start going high-end, but you probably already know that. To my mind reliability is an important factor here; you don't want to be spending that kind of money and having shoddy (but ultra fast) components that are really fragile and need nursemaiding. With that in mind I'd recommend a rugged workstation class machine as a baseline.

            That'd be great

mhquake, when you said as a baseline, you meant for use in building your own?

              core i7
              X58 Motherboard
              16GB RAM @ 1600mhz (24 if u can afford it)
2 ATI HD 5870's in sli
2 OCZ Vertex SLC Solid State Drives (60GB each) in Raid 0
Windows 7 64 bit on the above RAID0 only
Buy an additional 1TB-2TB drive for all programs/storage/etc.

I would keep the windows7 as the only thing on your main drive except for whatever game you want to play at the time. I would install it on the SSDs then remove when done.

Nice computer Disco, and the RAID config is a nice touch too, only a bit pricey for myself though.

Don't do RAID 0 - it's dangerous. You're effectively doubling the chance of a HD failure wiping out everything. Take it from someone who does this stuff for a living.

Don't do RAID0 if you're going to store information that you can't afford to lose.

Even though HD's are a lot better these days than they used to be, RAID0 basically cuts your HD reliability in half so if one drive goes, you lose everything (as MH said). This has happened to me as well..

If you wanted to do Raid for performance reasons, you would be better off with a combination of mirror/stripping such as RAID 5, but you would need more than two HD's for that.

Or RAID 10 if your mobo/controller supports it (you'll need 4 HDs minimum though).

i think that is why he is saying to only have windows 7 and a single game on the main drive. if that is lost, it's just a quick reinstall.

                            yes ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Raid 0 is fine. Yes HDD's SsD's do fail but if you can afford a good system then you might as well go all out and that is the other reason for only keeping minimal on the raid0drives. 1) you dont have to buy as big of SSDs. 2) less clutter 3) if you have a failure, you wont lose much.

I dont have raid 0 setup now and i still dont keep music/pictures/movies/games on my main drive.

In that case, I'd recommend he keep his "Users" folder on another drive
