Very well, then. You head up to the entrance slipgate and attempt to stop those technicians before they can leave. When you catch them, you ask them to hang on for a bit. You'll need their continued assistance. You then radio HQ and ask them to get twelve more Enforcers ready for sentry duty. You then prepare to make your way back to E2M1...except you're the only one in your party. Do you plan on making the trip alone or are you gonna bring a companion and/or your loyal Darkscythe with you?

You order Phoenix and Darkscythe to your position.

Phoenix and Darkscythe have joined your party!

You order the Death Knight Commander to your position.
"You want me to go with you? Forgive my insolence, my lord, but it seems your envoy is a little too crowded as it is. If you wish for me to accompany you, you'll have to leave the human soldier behind." Phoenix scowls at the DKC.

You can only have one companion with you at a time.

Narrator's advice: If you want to start ordering around the monsters and undead in the bunker under E2M1, the DKC might be a better companion for the job. If restoring the base is your aim, Phoenix's intelligence and technical skills would be more helpful than the DKC's brawn. However, if you want to head to E3M1 or E4M1 and clear the enemies out of there, you could benefit from the combat abilites of either companion. Think about what kind of approach you want to make, then choose your companion.

You, Phoenix and Darkscythe warp over to E2M1 and briefly check around, just to make sure nothing decided to pay this place a visit. You'll have the DKC head over once you've turned everything back on.
"Can't shake the feeling that there's something not right about this place, sir." You shrug at your companion. "I think Darkscythe feels it, too." You look over at your pet. He's sniffing the air and being very quiet...something unusual to Darkscythe who is usually growling or grunting about something or another. "Just feels...different than it does over at the Slipgate Complex. It feels...darker." You admit that the lighting in here is a little less than what it is back at E1M1, but you seem to remember it always being that way. "I dunno, boss. Can't quite find the words I want to decribe it with. Anyway, we should probably proceed." You nod. You order Phoenix and Darkscythe to the mainframe to start turning things on while you head over to the back-up generators. Switching them on shouldn't be difficult. Once you reach the generator room, you find the biggest lever switch and pull it. The fuel-powered generators start to grind to life. The emergency lighting around the base flickers on, then off again. Mission accomplished.
"Sir, you might want to come look at this..." Uh oh...you head back over to the mainframe, expecting to find an army of horrible things awaiting you. Instead, you find your followers watching a securty moniter. "It's the security footage to the base. Seems that the cameras were one of the last things turned off here." You see footage of some Grunts and Enforcers locked in combat with the Shadows. Then you see the Reaper enter through one of his portals and make some pretty quick work of his adversaries. Shortly after, you see another, larger portal open. Through it comes an army of varying Shadow monsters. Fiends, Shamblers, Ogres, Spawns, Scraggs, Vores, all manner of Quake-type monsters, only in Shadow form. You ask Phoenix what he makes of it.
"Shh...watch." You turn back to the screen. After the monsters, several dozen robed Shadows enter. They appear humanoid in shape, not large and lengthy like the Reaper, not lithe and agile like the other Shadow soldiers you've faced. They look like warlocks, dressed in flowing robes, not tight-fitting like the one you're wearing. You see no faces beyond the robes, not even glowing eyes. Just hollow hoods, like there is nothing under the robe at all. They carry no weapons, and appear to hover rather than walk. Definitely wizards of some sort. These must be the magister sect of the Shadow army, where you have only yet faced the martial and monster sects. Behind the cadre of Shadow Casters floats a cloud of pure darkness...a mist of pure undiluted evil. You see a large figure pass through. It looks quadroped, but like no animal or monster you've ever seen. It is fleeting, and only a sillouette, but from what you can catch, it is a four-legged beast with an elongested head, scrawny body, long, skinny limbs, no tail, no horns. And big...this thing could easily be thrice the size of a large bull elephant. It's fast, whatever it is. The camera barely caught any footage of it at all. "Do you suppose that's the master the Reaper mentioned?" Hm. You hope so. You've faced some pretty horrid monsters, but never anything THAT big. You're amazed it managed to fit itself in this base at all. If that thing ISN'T the master, you can't even imagine how frightening the real master must be. You shake your head. Not the time to give in to nightmares. You have work to do. You ask Phoenix about his progress. "Everything's online, sir. The auto-turrets need to be repaired, but other than that, the base is up and running. Check this out, boss." Phoenix hands you a stack of papers. "It looks like a truck manifest, sir." Truck?? How the hell is a truck gonna get through the....oh yeah. The bases used to be on Earth, right. You skim through the manifest. It's dated three months ago and had a shipment of what you can only surmise to be slipgate parts. You ask Phoenix how long this base has had its slipgates. "This base was the first one to have them installed after the slipgate was invented. That was about....maybe half a year ago." Hrm...so this base already had its slipgates installed three full months before this shipment arrived. You can only wonder what those parts were for...worse yet, where they are now. "I think you know as well as I do that those slipgate parts are now in enemy hands, sir." You nod at Phoenix. It is very likely...and just as likely that they are building their own slipgate to connect with the Earth. Sheesh...the problems just keep flowing for you, don't they? Oh well. Solving problems seems to be what you do best. Well, let's get this show on the road. You call your base and tell the DKC to head over. You then call HQ and request 4 more Enforcers.
"You might be waiting for a while, Captain. We don't have any sentry-trained Enforcers at the ready, but we'll find some. We do have some sentry-ready grunts, but I don't think their shotguns will be too useful against the enemy..." Whatever...you delay the order. You have a better idea.
"At your command, my liege." The Death Knight's gruff, undead voice startles you. He's pretty sneaky for a ten-foot tall armor-plated zombie. You order the commander to head down to the bunker and rally his minions to your position. They will be this base's sentries. You're not sure just how well a bunch of out-classed monsters can defend this base, but they'll have to do.
"What's our next move, Captain?" Phoenix eagerly inquires.

That truck delivered here back when the outpost bases were still on Earth's dimensional plane, before the first Quake War. Likely, it made its shipment, then went back to its distribution center somewhere on Earth. You don't really have time to head to Earth right now and search for it.

You check your security network printout, looking for any places you haven't yet explored. Phoenix looks over your shoulder.
"What about that door by the entrance, sir?" You look at the printout. Looks like it leads to another waterway. Great...well, might as well check it out. You look over at the security moniters. "This camera is out, sir." Oh yeah, this one got knocked out right after you turned the security network on. This one must overlook that area. So, off you go. Off to claim the rest of your base for yourselves. You take the lift down and head out the Silver door toward the entrance foyer. "This is the door. Should we call the Death Knight Commander and have him and his minions check it out for us?" You shake your head. For one, you don't have any way to call the DKC. You tell Phoenix to remind you to get him a headset and console as soon as this ordeal is done. Second, there's no sense in waiting for him. The three of you can handle whatever is back there. You open the door and follow the small hallway to the right. The path decends into the water. No big deal...theres plenty of room to swim around, so you step into the water without fear. This water isn't murky waste like the stuff out in the main part of the base. It's clear, cool, and smells clean. The ground below you slopes down. It's only maybe 7 feet deep where you are, but it looks like it gets pretty deep further on. You swim out a bit and look around. It would seem you are outside now. The sky above you is just as black as it was back at the Slipgate Complex, moonless, starless, and cloudy. The water is surrounded by raised flooring that circles around to form a kind of docking bay.

Ahead of you is the exit to the bay. It leads out to sea. Is it possible this way leads back to Earth...? The water stretches too far out to swim.
To your left is a hallway that leads to what looks like a small vestibule.
To your right is nothing interesting.
Behind you is the door back to the base.

The air out here is pretty cold and windy. You start feeling the effects of chill. You probably don't want to stay in the water too long.

You climb up out of the water. Phoenix follows behind with Darkscythe in tow. You shake yourself off and wring your Reaper's Cloak out. Strangely enough, it feels dry. The material it's made of doesn't seem to absorb water. Cool. You head into the small vestibule and look around. There is a slipgate here.
"This must be the exit slipgate. Wonder where it leads..." You tell Phoenix to jack in and figure that out. He complies, borrowing your USB cable. "Sir, from what I can determine from this data, it leads into the Realm of Black Magic, same as it did before. I can't pinpoint what area of the realm it leads to, though." You scratch your chin. "Do we dare step through?"

"That's probably a good idea. Hm..." You ask what's wrong. "Well, I've studied these things as much as anyone probably should have, but I don't remember them having an off switch." No problem. You pull the pannel off the side of the thing and rip out the main fuse. The large machine's electrical hum screeches to a halt. There. It's off. "....alrighty then. Very good, sir." You hand him the fuse to hold on to for safe keeping.

                              Phoenix receives a Slipgate Fuse
