My computer finally crashed (i think its just the power supply, but I used it as an excuse to build a new one). I have all new parts coming to my house. I havnt built a new computer in years, so it should be fun.

Nice! I wanted to build a new computer, but instead I just bought a better mobo and overclocked my Q9650 to 4ghz...

nothing major, since I only use it for work and quake (dont play other pc games, I use a ps3 for that).

i3-2120, 16 gb dd3, 1TB Segate. Im just re-using the vid card I had in my old pc (since it was perfect for quake).

EDIT: I realize 16 gigs is standard now, but in my experience as a professional graphic artist, a composer/producer and video editor I haven't come across a situation where I needed more than 8.

the way to go is counter to what many will tell u. unless you are playing something other than quake1 and or spending lots of time reading the forums u can get by with a commodore 64. i say the 64 because i wouldn't skimp on memory. im running a full 64 kilobytes ( random-access memory in case you forgot.)

the thing that slows it to a crawl are forum pages loading pictures of trucks;]

Todd you should upgrade to the C128 double the ram and higher screen res

hahahahahahahaha. I dont know wtf happened to this post, but atleast I got the info's from Mono.

And yes, having an overclocked rig is nice, but its worthless if you aren't processing data which is actually generates the heat. I am unsure which one is the more efficient heater though, a REAL heater, or a gaming rig crunch data for @home, Boinc!, mining bitcoins etc.

I have effectively ceased all my donating cpu/gpu cycles to SETI and others for now, when new hardware comes into play then I'll probably pick it back up.

Yep, that's what I got running. [email protected] on my 5870, boinc on my 920 and boinc in the server over there running my 3.5GHz Athlon II x2 240. I'm debating whether or not to throw my GTX260 in there for more [email protected] power, but that's more heat and more energy burned up for the power bill. I might try to sell my 260 and my 8800gts and pick up on something more efficient.
