second quake anyone? - remaking quake in second life

    sorry for the delay, but ive only kjust came back from vacation to dominican republic in rl yesterday, and before that my friend didnt make pics of him holding the nailgun and SNG

    anyways, here they are. the pic shows my friend ape who also scripted the guns for me. second person on third pic is his gf

      grenade-launcher finally got done as well a few days ago, its fully usable, and works exactly like it does in quake itself.
      my good friend finally finished scripting it after having trouble figuring out how to make it work like it should for some time

      the grenades explode on impact with any avatar or hitting a scripted object, and if it hits neither itll go boom 3secs after shooting, just like they do in quake

        I used to play SL roleplay.. I was a police chief in 5 different sims. Never got into building or scripting but enjoyed using and buying lots of prefab items. I dont miss SL as it took alot of time playing the game and nearly caused a divorce in RL.. So makin quake items in SL and actively making them work is just gonna make me interested and probably sign those papers next time she lays them out there.. LoL! Good work keep it up!

              but i just hope you dont really get a divorce in RL over sl

              ive been a enthousiast roleplayer myself too, for over a year i used to RP 24/7, and occasionally i still do.
              but i guess that was pretty obvious by my avatars, not?

              used to rp at city of lost angels myself, dark urban rp. used to play a cute fairy for some time which kept getting in trouble and angering and annoying people with her stupidity and her clumsiness and such, were hilarious times. stopped rp-ing at that sim myself cuz it went down fast like a year ago or so.
              since ive occasionally tried to roleplay at other sims but no other rp sim managed to really catch my interest and keep it like city of lost angels did.
              never gave up on my rp characters though, and ive always kept my fantasy avatars and never had a normal human avi, and i still occasionaly do some roleplay outside roleplay sims with friends

              i love sl myself, ive been around on sl since aug2007. the part about sl that makes it so great is the huge social aspect of it, keep coming back for all the great people and for all the friends i have.

              the second part is what im working on, give people their own quake in SL
              already have all keys, all ammo-boxes, all 3 healthboxes, and 3 of the weapons complete so far. the weapons are all fully working and made to work exactly like they do in quake itself

              i do plan to remake all other weapons too, and maybe remake the quake-guy suit in both male and female versions.

              and i do hope to one day be able to have a complete working 'combat system' or be able to use 'linden damage' with set percentage damage to make all weapons cause an amount of damage per hit like they do in quake too, so people can have a quake deathmatch in sl too.

              but thats something which is more like a possibility some day, first i wanna remake all weapons and items, and then if i get more into scripting maybe one day a working system with hud and such can be made. but something like that is insanely difficult to make, so for now its just a dream.

              just like making all monsters is as well, but if id wanna do that id first need to learn to use blender or such to make mesh or sculpties, so not something that'll be done in the near future im afraid.

                there are rooms where you can, its like a south central gang seen, idk i tried SL in 2009 takes time to get all the goodies tho.

                  I used to have 2 rp sims.. City of Camden and City of Melbourne. My sl name is strikerq12 bigboots. I was addicted to sl but got out of it cuz my wife hated it.. Lol

                    I tried Second Life but I was no good at it.

                    I ended up trolling a guard at some Star Wars building for his clan. He said noone may enter but he couldn't stop me. for I was to powerful.

                      decided to go ahead and make the boxes all my items are sold in look a bit more fancy.

                      taking a suggestion from a friend i downloaded the QRP hi-res textures for items and used them on the boxes,
                      making the boxes the items are sold in look like the items itself but without detail,
                      so the boxes look a lot more fancy while still just a few prims (most high-prim one is 8prims).

                      and the boxes now come with an easy unpack script so you only have to click them once rezzed and you'll be given a folder with the contents


                      boxes are... back row first, L-R:
                      tiny NM portal = box for both the separate portals and for the skill selection map
                      stacked healths = box for the health-boxes
                      nails-box = box used for both the nailgun and super-nailgun
                      rockets-box = box for the grenade-launcher
                      gold keycard = box for all the keys
                      pile of ammo-boxes = box for the ammo-boxes

                        wanted to not post next item i made yet since i wanted to wait till my friend who scripts my items for me could get to script them,
                        but since he's been busy lately with all other kinda projects which take up all his time and ive had the prim-work itself done for ages,
                        i decided to post them anyway

                        next thing i remade in second life are the exploding boxes, like the one you find in the first 'base' maps of each episode of quake.

                        made the prim-work long ago already once when i was bored, and textured them a few weeks ago
                        and added the animated pulse to the nuke icon, in the same way like OoPpEe

                          hey all. havent posted anything in this thread in a while, but thats cuz ive been quite busy.

                          after acquiring seanstars modified versions of ruohis ammo and healthboxes which are a lot closer to the originals, ive been busy making modified versions of the items i made to be like these retro versions

                              erm. sure, if you find someone capable of scripting a combat system for that you could in theory do multiplayer matches.

                              there are already tons of sims in second life which are special combat sims which use the special 'linden damage' which allows for people to get killed with scripted weapons.

                              however for that kinda combat like quake would require scripting a special hud system which allows for all weapons to do the same damage they do in quake and that you can pick up health and items.

                              but yeah, in theory it would definitely be possible. a sim i love going to has a special hud system which allows for picking up health and armor and allows you to take quests from special scripted npc's and where you can fight scripted enemies which move and will attack you and hurt you, even scripted enemies which shoot at you with bows or magic spells and such.
                              and other players can also harm you if you turn that on, so you can have PvP fights with the combat system as well

                              however making such a combat system is really complicated, and i can only dream of being able to script something like that myself one day

                              but ever since i started remaking stuff from quake its been something like my ultimate goal. to completely remake everything from quake as much as possible and some day hopefully make a special combat system with quake hud so you could play a game of quake in sl
