second quake anyone? - remaking quake in second life

    totally does, ive been working on and off on remaking the quake arsenal in SL for ages
    started on them like... a year ago or so, and been working on and off on them all this time, with breaks in between from lack of will to continue cuz of stuff happening like losing someone to script for me for the second time. used to have a scripter which made brilliant scripts and did it for free cuz he was a great friend, but studying took all of his time and he was unable to continue scripting for me cuz of that.

    and i stopped continuing to work on weapons cuz i lacked will to continue knowing they'd just be useless props cuz i had nobody to script for the weapons for me.
    but then after some time i picked up building and got new will to go on anyway cuz i was all excited about some new stuff i got for my quake.

    and then shortly after i found a new scripter through one of my best friends, but that one wasnt a very good scripter at all while he acted like he was the best scripter in the world and asking crazy prices for making even the simplest script. and a while ago that guy suddenly dissapeared and i havent heard from the guy since.

    so sadly currently only half of the weapons is usable, and the LG was in the middle of being scripted but it didnt get finished cuz the guy who was scripting it for me went poof


    so guess its time to either go find someone new to script for me...
    or finally get to seriously learning scripting in SL myself
    cuz ive been wanting to be able to script in SL for ages, and this would be a perfect reason to have inspiration why i should put it through for real this time. itll feel even way more awesome to have the weapons scripted knowing ill have done the scripting for them myself

    but that'll have to wait, since ill be going on vacation thursday for a week, going to dominican republic, which ive been too xmas of 2011
    totally psyched about that, cant wait. last time was awesome and ill sure itll be just as great again this time. sun, beach, great food, super weather, lots of fun activities to do around the resort, and lets not forget... lots of lovely gals in bikini

        • been a while since i posted anything here, but be assured:
          i am not dead and neither is this project

          actually as a matter of fact, ive been extremely busy with this lately!


          just over a week ago one of my best friends offered to help me with scripting a bit, and she made a shotgun script for me.
          i myself made everything else including custom animations for both idle and aim poses, and also a nice little pump animation for the shotgun!
          first made sure that the shotgun worked 100% like in-game,
          and then after that ive been busy on and off ever since to make them even better and to add some nice fancy features to them. (which are optional of course )




          .

          EXTRA FANCY FEATURES IVE ADDED TO THE WEAPONS ARE...
          -option to use original sounds or more beefed-up sounds for the weapons.
          for SG the beefed-up sound is the SSG sound instead, and for the SSG the beefed-up sound is the SSG-sound from the drake mod,
          which makes the SSG sound a lot more powerfull and makes you feel like you got some serious firepower in your hands


          -sheathed versions of the weapons, which have a strap added to them and which are worn on the back.
          they'll go invisible when you draw the weapons, and appear again when you sheath your shotgun




          -shellcasing ejections being ejected each time you fire like as in seven's SMC mod for quake.
          optional of course, since not everyone will like this option cuz the weapons didnt have this originally



          -muzzleflashes when the weapons are fired! also optional of course



          -and last but not least, i also added 2 modes:
          MAX-MODE : will turn all extra fancy features on at once: shellcasings, muzzleflashes and beefed-up sounds for max awesomeness
          ORIGINAL-MODE : will turn all fancies off so the weapon is 100% like how it originaly is in-game

              • ive mentioned in another thread before that i was very busy lately remaking more stuff from quake... and this is what i have been busy with all this time

                clip was made at night which is what ive optimized the map for, pics are made at sunset instead for better visibility














                ive worked really hard to make the map be 100% authentic to in-game.
                luckily this time i had the map-sources so i could have the map open in GTKradiant which made it an awefull lot easier for me to remake the map in sl
                cuz it allowed me to see exactly how big each piece was, while before i had to either guess or go count stones which was a ginormous pain in the ass.

                ive also added a lot of fancy features to the maps:
                -automagically opening doors which work exactly like in-game. opens when anyone gets close,
                stays open untill nobody has been close for several seconds. if someone gets close again within that time period, the door will stay open and wont close.
                -working teleporters, with fancy custom-made particle-effects based on the teleport effect from seven's SMC
                -'rising stars' slipgate effects, also inspired by an effect seven once made. can be toggled on and off for those who dont like it.
                -fancy atmospheric lighting, which was placed carefully and optimized to together create that amazing dark and evil ambience that we all love from quake
                -randomly spawning lava-balls which shoot up out of lava at random speeds and angles just like in-game!
                -also, randomly spawning lava-bursts in the lava-pools
                -projector-lights in EP1 hall, and in some parts of EP4 halls which create fancy shadowing and lighting
                -runes and arrows on the walls glow in the dark just like in-game
                -animated blinking lights on the walls in EP1 hall
                -entrance to stairs leading to teleporter to shubs pit can be opened and closed,
                and blockades of episodes will appear and dissapear. they can be toggled with a switch
                -FREE skybox included: 'Purple Chaos' skybox from the doom3 'shamblers castle' mod.

                      i will most def keep it up, been thinking of perhaps remaking E4M4 next, since that one is my fave map of quake

                      or perhaps HIP2M1 or R2M6... love both of those too,
                      and they're both castle-like maps as well

                      .

                      anybody know if the map-sources of the HIPNOTIC and ROGUE mission-packs were released as well?
                      i know the ID1 map-sources were released, but were the ones from mission-packs released too?

                        I wonder if Schloss might be to your liking? As i recall, it's a comparatively small castle map with a definite WW2 german overtone.

                        Maybe Howard "GlassMan" Shaw's GMSP3TW "Day of the lords" might be more to your taste which is much, MUCH bigger with multiple levels/floors and has more of a medieval feel. The entrance/start point seems to be very reminiscent of E2M2, The Ogre Citadel but it seems, to me at least, to be very focused on Single Player game play with lots of secrets and puzzles thrown in for good measure, but it could be an interesting coop map as well as a single player.
                        If only some talented individual could add/make some more Coop maps that would work with the RQuake Coop servers.




                        Apologies for the poor quality, it's more a reflection on the old hardware I have rather than anything to do with Qrack. I'm sure it would look much better on your system

                        • hmm just tried that 'schloss' map and its to small, and to obviously a DM-map
                          and im not really into competitive play.

                          its a nice-ish map, but to small and to obviously made specially for DM

                          • Someting seems wrong with the Schools map you talking... it is pretty big to me... just a quick note... I might show you when my stuff are back to normal (but someone will probably already make it clear hehe).

                              It's all relative I suppose. If you compare Schloss to Ultrav/Aero then it's fairly big. However, if you compare it to GMSP3TW "Day of the lords" it's small.

                              There are always exceptions to this of course, but if Talisa is more used to Single Player maps then by their very nature the maps are often quite expansive so you have plenty of areas to explore, so her expectations may be different. Conversely, the guys that mainly play Arena on small tight maps may view things very differently
