second quake anyone? - remaking quake in second life

    oh no no, ive made those with the internal second life building tools.

    here ive made a post explaining those in a nut-shell, and with some clip of someone showing how it works

    its fun to use, but it can be quite hard cuz these tools have their limits and you often have to resort to using tricks to try and get the shape you want, which can sometimes be a real pain in the ass

    and you cannot use the kinda details with them like you can with real 3D-models, but for quake-stuff it works very well since quake-stuff is kinda blocky looking in general

        • dun dun dun....
          just a bit ago started working on the shotgun after searching through my files and finding that ruohis included a really nice looking one with his grunt model



          managed to get quite far already as you can see, only the pump is still missing... and it still needs a trigger of course too
          and of course the textures need to be added to and correctly aligned on all parts


          based it on the shotgun that ruohis included with both the grunt and the version of his player-model which includes v_weaps
          .

                yes you most definitely could, there are a lot of combat-systems available on sl which allow you to hurt and kill each other like CCS, DCS, GCS, LARP, spellfire, spellfire2, GLM, VICE.

                and almost every single one of those combat-systems is compatible with basic projectile-based weapons. a few of these systems need special scripts to work with the system, but in nearly all of them the weapons i made work just fine

                also there are lots of sims(256x256 maps) where people have put out scripted enemies which you can kill with them, like zombies and mummies and skeletons and all kinda other monsters

                    Well you seem to be able to recreate the weapons pretty accurately. Are you able to recreate (or even improve on) popular Quake maps within this game as well? Are you able to fire these weapons and, as JD said, frag other players ?

                      about the weapons, yush, you can kill other players if you are all using them with a combat system which is specially made to allow for being able to harm and kill other people

                      thanx im glad you like them, i try hard to make them look as close as possible to my fave hi-poly weapon models

                      yes a bunch of them you can actually use and they're made to work exactly like they do in quake.

                      but some arent scripted to be usable yet, but they will be too when i can either find a new scripter to script the weapons for me or when i learn doing it myself.
                      right now the ones working are nailgun, super-nailgun, grenadelauncher, rocketlauncher and the HIPNOTIC lasergun. the rest are all still unscripted.
                      LG was being worked on but the guy who was doing that one dissapeared

                      about maps... most definitely can, ive already did a recreation of a map once for a customer, which ive posted a clip of right here: http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-tal...tml#post115828
                      its E1M2 castle of the damned, completely recreated from start till exit, including all of the doors and switches and secrets and teleporters being present and working


                      ive also remade the skill-selection part of the start-map once for fun.

                      • That's quite a talent you've got there Talisa. I can't imagine the endless hours you must have spent on all of that but the end result is something really quite impressive and looks quite faithful to the original design. Well done and thank you for sharing.

                          oh yes, ive put countless hours into those maps...
                          the start-map took me two sessions of 12 hours to complete
                          and that other map took me 1 month of constant building, spending every single hour of my days on building. so that would be something like.... 300hours or so?
                          ...and lots and lots of headaches from constantly counting stones on walls and measuring, keeping SL open on one monitor and quake open on the other monitor so i could hold my work and the actual map side-by-side while building to make the map be 100% the exact same as the original

                          but i think the end-result was totally worth all the work and the headaches and such

                          just sat down earlier and i put myself to it to continue on and finish the shotgun, just finished it a minute ago
                          last pic is just to show it actually does look like the original hud weapon when looked at from the right angle

                          since the original model by ruohis didnt have one I created a trigger for it myself by taking and modifying the trigger from the SSG

                          • You know it's hard to tell what the shotgun actually looks like since it's the starter weapon, but you made it close enough.

                              yeah true, but i think the shotgun model ruohis made which he added to his grunt and to his playermodel
                              with V_weaps is just like how the shotgun from quake would look like


                              also.... omg i never thought id say this, but....
                              ive finally finished remaking the whole quake-arsenal in SL now that ive finished the shotgun too!
