Here's what the Dead City looks like in 2011.

Ignore that - once you get the hardware problems sorted out (and remember that Quake looked and ran like ass on contemporary hardware when it was released too, Quake II was barely playable until the 3.12 patch, Doom 3 was a sluggish monster that needed 3 generations of hardware upgrades before it ran well, etc etc etc) it runs very very well.
Why would someone deliberately do that? And you're probably playing on a console, 90% of the videos I've seen look shit. They've obviously made it for consoles.

Doom 3 was literally hell whilst running it on my PC when I first brought it back in 2005. But that's what the game's about isn't it?

Is there any sort of Rage demo for PCs? Or have they turned retarded and acted like all the other developers (no SP or MP demos and not even beta testing)?

Dead Island seem'd pretty cool. Witcher 2 has my plate pretty much full, I only play it in like 30 minutes to 1hour spurts.

I have installed Dead Island (works awesome, out of box) and Rage is 2x the issues I had with Witcher 2. Ubersampling <- FOK. What is this a cruel joke?

yes, just tonite i did it. Installed just fine, update 1 downloading, I wont be bothering with
              it til tomorrow morning though.

What you want after installation is also located on Disc 3, which after installing is what you will have already mounted. Copy/Replace, you know the drill.

Nope, I'm playing on PC. Relatively low-specced as well - a laptop with a GeForce 230M. And it runs Just Fine. Rock-solid 60 FPS no problems.

I say again - the game just doesn't look like that comparison screenshot at all.

As for why someone would deliberately do that? Perhaps the same reason why someone would claim to have beaten every mission in 6 hours? Or the same reason why someone would post comparison screenshots of a modded Doom 3?

There are plenty of examples of people flat-out lying about Rage, and they can be show to be lying. Why would they do it? Why indeed?

I reckon the the reason why there's no demo is because the file size would be way too large - those megatextures do take up a whole lot of storage but that's part of the tradeoff.

its just so mediocre and suffers from consolitis after this long wait i was excited for something real good from id.
i hope with all the negative feedback they still release the mod tools and not cash in on crappy dlcs instead (they sell better if users cant make better content for free)
im curious to get some insight about how megatextures work and how the mapper/artist handles them. the idea to have a big texture instead of many single can be great to work with for the artist i guess but id stated before that mapping is diffcult maybe this explains the linear walk in a invisible tube like levels with zero exploration

funny how since i got rage i played it multiple amounts of time less than quake
i currently play quake with 3D glasses finishing all (good) singleplayer usermaps and episodes

This is exactly why I did not buy it,
                    No demo, No purchase.

I don't see where you could complain. Fallout3? sure, complain, A LOT. Rage is brand new,so naturally it has brand new itis. Not consolitis...

The shot you provided looked very shitty anyway, it look smudged and pathetic. The only thing that looked good was the weapon and polycounts.

Bought RAGE in a used game store here in Japan for something like 1300 Yen for PS3. I did not like it all.

PRO: The graphics are very, very good. The setting is a bit like Fallout 3 but more flashy. It has an open-world feel. Driving around in vehicles is fun.

CONS: The fighting, which is the most important aspect of such a game, just plain SUCKS. I have all this graphic beauty blown up to something like 1.5 meters screen diagonal on my projector, it all looks awesome, but I am fighting enemies in the distance all the time where I can barely see them. Even the pistol feels like some kind of sniper gun, it's so precise, but without the telescope so you don't see much. I played this the entire Saturday and just plain hated it because of the combat. It was more like a shooting gallery than a proper FPS.

Then there are little details, which are typical of current AAA games, not only of RAGE. and which I just hate: The over-pronounced, slow way the NPCs speak to you. The mandatory shopkeeper, which tediously, painstakingly slow explains to you that you can buy and sell stuff in his shop (who would have thought). The fact that the game takes me by the hand, assuming this is the first game I ever played.

RAGE is technically a huge leap foward. Game-play wise, it sucks like most current-gen games. I am not against modern gaming in general, every now and then a good new game comes out, but RAGE is not one of them.
