PRO: The graphics are very, very good. The setting is a bit like Fallout 3 but more flashy. It has an open-world feel. Driving around in vehicles is fun.

CONS: The fighting, which is the most important aspect of such a game, just plain SUCKS. I have all this graphic beauty blown up to something like 1.5 meters screen diagonal on my projector, it all looks awesome, but I am fighting enemies in the distance all the time where I can barely see them. Even the pistol feels like some kind of sniper gun, it's so precise, but without the telescope so you don't see much. I played this the entire Saturday and just plain hated it because of the combat. It was more like a shooting gallery than a proper FPS.

Then there are little details, which are typical of current AAA games, not only of RAGE. and which I just hate: The over-pronounced, slow way the NPCs speak to you. The mandatory shopkeeper, which tediously, painstakingly slow explains to you that you can buy and sell stuff in his shop (who would have thought). The fact that the game takes me by the hand, assuming this is the first game I ever played.

RAGE is technically a huge leap foward. Game-play wise, it sucks like most current-gen games. I am not against modern gaming in general, every now and then a good new game comes out, but RAGE is not one of them.
Just 21 days to go until this post was gonna be locked. Glad you bought RAGE for the 360, I recommend you have a bad-ass computer / definately not AMD GPU's.

Unless you own a nVidia gpu, I recommend steering clear of the PC version.

Even Alec Meer from Rock, Paper, Shotgun says that he's seeing quite a few technical problems on his PC to the point where he isn't even sure he can keep playing.

"Sounds like Im not alone either," he writes. "The megatextures streaming texture system is horribly noticeable. If I spin to camera to look 90 or 180 or more degrees in the other direction, for a split second half the world is blurry and featureless, before the impressively detailed textures pop into sight. Its really, really distracting, I must say."
I have yet to play RAGE due to I was just like like, yeah fuck this game. I'm sure its a nice game.... I'm just not the type of person to get too involved fixing games. Either it works or it don't,and cuz I'm in 'Team Red Camp' , I was forced to "Rage and walk away" ha ha.

    YES THATS PUN INTENDED

I don't think I understand what you are talking about. Sorry, I don't care if the thread would have been locked or not, I felt like replying and sharing my views on this game. By the way, as I wrote I bought it for PS3 not Xbox 360. RAGE runs fine on the PS3, there are no technical issues. My criticism is not with the technical side but with the gameplay which I think is sub-par.

I have a bad ass computer and a nVidia gpu and bought the game on release. Rage is sub-par...I would only recommend getting it if you find it in a bargain bin somewhere. Obviously, just to have because it's an id game, I wouldn't actually suggest playing it.

The character models look good. The so called best feature of the engine is MEGATEXTURING which really gets lost. I mean, this type of texturing is used so that u dont have a pattern of 1 texture copied over and over on multiple areas looking like some '60s wallpaper we are used to in Quake. Though, because it takes up a huge chunk of memory/resources it's confined to a bad quality image. So they might as well just used the non-mega texture method and spent more type coding gameplay.

I didn't buy it because I had read the reviews and stayed up on the news about the game before launch. The Mega Textures issue is one problem. The other being that they coded it for all platforms and dumbed down the graphics so it would work across all platforms. Many reviews also stated that you could still feel consolitis on the PC.

I know they are a business and need to make money but reducing your PC quality in order to do this is saying a big F$ck you to all the people that made id what it is today. I, unlike many people on this site, have never owned a console as an adult. Not one console after SNES. I couldn't care less about playing a game with controllers on sub par hardware. I am a computer gamer for life.

The other issue I have with id is there insistence on creating their own engine and then developing the game. I am not saying don't make your engines. You make too much money and that is where carmack's talent lies. However, you need to have multiple teams. You need other designers/programmers that are developing games on the previous tech while carmack and his crew works on the next tech. That way we dont wait 7 years between games.

My last issue is their next game being doom4..... geez really?

Anyways i can go on and on... but im done now.
In case you didn't know, RAGE was released with some shitty/shoddy configuration limitation that a patch later sought to resolve.

I tried running RAGE on my 5770 Crossfire setup and it choked hardcore, It had extremely horrible texture 'pop-in', so I do plan on running RAGE again.

Pretty sure it was all related to VRAM being insufficient heh. I'm not bored enough to re-install it though, plenty of Q1CA/Crysis 3/NFS:MW keeping me busy.

Not that I want to get in a bash-a-game-athon but this is my limited experience!

I rented it from Redbox for my PS3, it loaded a ton, then I started it! While creating an environment like that is amazing, if you take away the eye candy the gameplay feels practically no different then DOOM! From almost TWENTY years ago! Sadly, I got so bored, and quickly, that I just uninstalled and returned it

Luckily, it was a small cost to discover that.
Name's damage_inc, and killing is my business. Don't worry though, it's nothing personal! Oh wait... maybe it is

I didn't play it, it was effectively broken for AMD/ATI graphics cards owners at launch + videocard setup didn't have enough fortitude to run the game at any level of acceptable.\

From like 1996 - Present Day, it's NQ/Q1 all the way. Id released other games? (Sarcasm is overflowing though!)

                  In order of relevance....
                  Quake1>Quake3>QuakeLive>Quake2>Quake4>ET:Quake Wars

                  In order of Id Games I have played ;

                  Wolfenstien
                  Doom 1 through ETC
Quake1 <- END OF THE LINE , NEWER ID/QUAKE GAMES BLOWED.

When I have experience with something of theirs new I'll respond though for sure. I do recall hearing that RAGE tried taking like 2-3 genres of games and tried really hard to be cool like Borderlands.

It would be nice if the new quake's weapon set & movement/physics is atleast identical to Q1's. That alone would be enough of a "similarity" for me,everything else is a-ok to be entirely revamped into modern application with modern gameplay modes etc.
