You obviously don't know what the definition of the word is so why are you using it?

    Completely irrelevant sentence is irrelevant.

How do you know these "things" are what you listed? Have you met these "things" in real life?

Huh, you act like you don't care but you make blatant insults at me to keep the argument going.

    LOL... gods... hilarious stuff man.
This is (unfortunately) exactly the bend I thought the conversation would take. That's too bad. I've no intention of talking to you again. Have fun, enjoy the interwebs. Getting caught up in this with you helps no one.

Any fool can try to defend his mistakes--and most fools do--but it gives one a feeling of nobility to admit one's mistakes. By fighting, you never get enough, but by yielding, you get more than you expected.

When i think of the GOLDEN days of anything, I think of the time when something was started and it was at the height of primary acceptance.

Golden days of television might have been in the '50s though we all are staring at a 'tv' right now.

Golden days for the Brits might mean an optimistic view of things to come.

I watch movies to be surprised and have the movie mess with my head.

I sense no "adventure" or "suspense" or "exploration" in almost any modern game. And almost all of them "tell you exactly what to do". I find this annoying.

Yeah, I miss games like Kings Quest IV! They basically left you alone to figure everything out and you didn't know what to expect.

I'm honestly more a fan of adventure games them first person shooters. It just seems FPS games just get rehashed and ruined almost but at least in a game like Skyrim you can just turn around if the Quest seems lame and go slap giants around with your bare hands.

Games like GTA intrigue me (at least until I beat them) because I don't feel like I'm going through functions in a program, I can loose the cops in a high speed chase which is usually 99% of the time unscripted in GTA games obv. Choose my play style whether to be completely evil or just "gangsta!". FPS realistic games which focus on military combat kind of bore me with the exception of Black Ops for some reason(gratifying hit markers even though they lie). I much rather prefer there to be a sense of "All hell about to break loose" or "Lets go kick evil in the balls" or "Lets just kill everyone" type release from the every day frustrations... Games are pretty therapeutic!

                      My questions are...

How did things get this way?
Where is all this re-hashness headed? main-stream or the trash bin?

Whats so damn important of continuing to add on more realistic features in a game?
Next think you know "COD X" will equip you with guns an E-TOOL and some toilet paper so your virtual soldier can dig holes and take craps in the middle of a firefight because his potty meter is full.... ridicules.

Do we really need to think more while we play FPS? or should we be having more fun doing fantasy stuff in games?

Amen to that, I really love adventure games; "Full Throttle," "The Dig," "Kings Quest," "Grim Fandango," "Escape From Monkey Island." You really have to think through those... good stuff.

I'm also a big fan (post apocalyptic RPG) of original Fallout1 and Fallout2; they were epic "Golden" games imo. I've never played Fallout3, but I'm told it has an impressive amount of freedom to do anything. Anyone here play Fallout3? What are your thoughts?

I keep my eye on "community type of modifications" and there is a fan remake of Kings Quest III.

Familiarity and lack of risk. Sequels at movie theatres are low risk. Styles of game play that are well established are low risk.

"Lack of risk" ends up being a culture.

And keep in mind, companies have to "green light" and budget projects. And those decisions are made by very conservative types of individuals.

This kind of thing often leads to "innovation" stagnation in about any industry.

Yep, If people like seeing shit roll down hill I suppose the next great innovation would be shit that rolls down hills faster. It's kind of sickening to think of how stagnant things might be (in the game industry). If all we have to look forward to in "COD X" is new shader graphics and optimized net code then WTF isn't it released as a patch and or update?

I have weird ideas for games all the time... 99% of them would more then likely flop very hard.. but there is 1% worth of mentioning/pursuing... and I know that there are A LOT more people then (1) thinking about new game mechanics/functionality/interactiveness but they do seem to stick to "If it works then don't change it". Which I think could very well be the cause of such stagnation... since "if it works" really translates to "Will it sell" and if it sells then those people make more money by releasing another "version" of their product with E-TOOLS. F'N BS! I haven't seen an E-TOOL in a game yet but I don't doubt it will happen eventually.

What happened to the good ole days where if it wasn't fun it was trash? these days if it doesn't look real and smell real while being rendered at 7000,0000 x 7000,0000 it's trash. These realistic games are taking over!

and after so many years of crating these games they focus more and more on graphics and less on the things that matter like solid gameplay.

For instance, I love playing Black Ops, the game is down right fun to play when the net connection is there... But after playing 4-5 games straight where I put 1 1/2 clips into a guy's chest just to have him run through my bullets and knife me in my face is ridiculous. which happens constantly. Of course this is based only on the XBOX360 version of black Ops, my problem isn't that I occasionally get a bad connection to the host but... that's all I get! which forces me to play much more defensive and choose long range alternatives to the fire fights (I snipe a lot). Since I am unable to effectively press the fire button quicker then the enemy I lose. But thats not the issue since I know I put at least 1/2 a clip in to the enemy I should have easily killed them... only to find out all my bullets were really 3-4 feet behind them this pisses me off and ruins 7 out of 10 games I play (literally). I found myself quitting games half match dew to this... Putting full clips into people's bodies only to have them turn and kill me within a split second. The net-code is horrible but the game is fun enough that when it works it's great, the rest of the time I usually disconnect to find a better host..

People might frown upon how I DC because of a bad connection but in all reality I'm not there to lose, and when I cannot effectively even play the game on the same level as the opponent there is no point in "letting them win" because their ping is sub 50 and mine is above 200. I don't see this company doing anything to better their netcode instead I see them pumping out 4-5 map downloads to suck more money out of my pockets and no site of better match making and or better net-code.

Having a game like Black Ops with bad net code is almost like having a nice car that gets 2-3 mpg. Complete and udder bullsh!t.

My observations on Black Ops netcode is based off playing the game single player, multiplayer on a 24Mbps cable connection and then on a DSL 6Mbps connection. While I did get a better experience with the higher speed internet there were still many instances where I simply could not kill the enemy dew to weird lag in the netcode.

That's a pretty narrow target I'm focusing on but Black Ops will not be the only game with good graphics and horrible netcode to be made.

Just kind of pissed that game industries can make any kind of game they want but they stick with realistic BS in every game almost. Why not exercise your imagination instead of looking at our military and saying "I wanna make a game like that!"

im basically ranting at this point

                                One word - CounterStrike.

I think/hope that the current cycle is going to turn soon. We're at the stage where almost every modern shooter is essentially the same in terms of gameplay. You might get different machine guns to play with, you will get improved gfx to drive the next round of GPU upgrades, but aside from that - what have they really got to distinguish them?
