'Doom 3 BFG Edition' will deliver the full Doom back catalog plus new levels | The Verge

Finally! Native widescreen support (I assume), as well as smoother, more responsive gameplay. They also added flashlight mounted weapons, hrm... I thought having to switch was a cool device. More ammo, brighter lighting, gun-mounted flash lights.... This should make the CoD kids happy...

I do disagree with a few points mentioned in the article: There was no ammo shortage, in fact there was an assload of ammo. Also, it's not too dark, wtf.

yeah i totally agree. i loved having to switch between weapon and flashlight, i once tried some mod which added flaslight to all weapons but that just felt silly.

and i totally agree, i really dont get all the negative comments about doom3 being to dark, its not to dark at all
    .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?

Selling the same games again and again. Just like Blizzard.

Soon to come: Rage, Director's Cut. Quake for Xbox 360. Commander Keen, Collector's Edition. id: The Vintage Anthology.

Quake 5, same as Quake but more shiny. Oh wait, they already did that with Quake 2.

I freaking LOVED Doom3! While I agree it wasn't the breakneck kill-orgy that Doom1 and 2 were it still stood on its own feet and was a blast to play! I wanted more hell-sages and I didn't like that zombies insta-gibbed, the flashlight was its own weapon. But the adventure and art direction were right in my wheelwell.

I already own it, but fuckit. I'm buying it again and I don't give a damn. Especially if they've incorporated some of the glamor of sikkmod.

          Direct link to trailer here

Guess what? not ONE thing about a PC version, no symbol, nothing

          [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcVVPaFoSZo]Doom 3 BFG Edition E3 2012 Announcement Trailer [HD] - YouTube[/ame]

And it still looks like old Doom 3. I thought it was remastered, or does that just mean made to run on current gen consoles in higher res now?

Check 1:25 on the trailer - you'll see a PC version box at the back. There's also this: https://twitter.com/#!/doom and this: https://twitter.com/idSoftware/statu...99104766988288

If you look closely you can see that the marine's armour is more high res (0:35-0:40).
They probably had their high res meshes laying around, waiting to be rebaked.

Tech things I want this to have: get rid of vertex interpolated lighting and do re-normalizing of the surface normals, unclamp speculars. Move shadowing and animation to GPU. Selfshadowing would be nice...
Playing IdTech 4 on a modern system really shows how CPU restricted it is (Q4 is terrible in that regard). And playing with a tweaked renderer (like MH did a while back, or something like Sikkmod) really makes the image look much more clean.

As for gameplay, D4 isn't my fav, I personally found the pitch black shadows to be rather annoying, simply because you couldn't see the edges of the room most of the time that way. Feeling kind of impaired in my movement. And the guns felt a bit slugish, like there was some kind of latency on everything. Combine that with the tight corridors, not much room to strafe. It lacked the smoothness and snappiness of Id Games. But I do love the environment. Just walking around in the spacestations, looking at the lighting and hearing the sounds is pretty awesome. I think it aged pretty well, graphics wise (like all idtech4 games).

As for the same shit yet again. I don't really care, if you like a band it doesn't mean you need to buy all of their compilation works. I'dd gladly have a good game made even better, I'm all for conserving digital works of art for the future.

I imagine it'll be given a treatment similar to Escape from Butcher Bay when it was packed with Dark Athena. A little spit and polish but it's still going to look long in the tooth when compared to 2012 releases. I'm just pumped to take it for another ride.

Reselling the same game with some polish does seem like a pretty low money grabbing scheme to me. It's classic. And they already did it with Doom and Wolfenstein for iphone, for instance. You have to buy the same game twice, which is basically a sham.

The only thing that interests me in this package is the new levels - hopefully they'll make these available for stock Doom 3 as well, but somehow I doubt that.

I'm not dissing the quality of their games, au contraire actually, all I'm criticizing is their shammy marketing that reeks of Activision-Blizzard to me.

Reselling what's basically the same game, only with different looks is a big thing right now.

Edit: And let's not lump this in with sequels or remakes, because with those you actually get a lot of new content. Here you get *some* new content to make it seem less of a sham, but at its heart these kind of things are *resales* of the same game, ie largely the same content.

remember that zenimax is holding their chains, about DoomIV, maybe this BFG version its just a Marketing strategy for Doom 4 itself(if they announce this on E3, probbaly everyone will buy the BFG edition)

thus the Doom 3 Symbol changed

                    BFG ed.

I don't mind much when a company dobule-dips a game. Even the "ultimate edition" packages of games where they lump in all the DLC in doesn't bother me. As long as the price-point isn't too high and they don't do it with too much regularity.

Doom3's been out for 7 years now so if the id boys want to take another crack at it why not? It won't be a sudden overnight hit but it might catch some people who missed it the first time around.

I think it would be cool to see a new disc release of Quake1 where they maybe tossed some coin to Mr.Darkplaces and the guys who've done all this HD texture-magic and deliver a hot oldskool package to the uninitiated. Give people the option to play it with legacy textures or HD mode. Even as a DLC that would be a sweet deal.

Um, Quake2 is at best, the bastard child that Quake1 refuses to "claim". You sir,are a blasphemer.

Probably, but extremely unlikely that his hate-rant will see the light of day on these forums. (he's baned)

There's nothing really wrong with the repackage/resell - companies do that all the time. It's not really too much different from Half Life 2's Orange Box, various Game Of The Year editions, Quake: The Offering, or even Tomb Raider's Unfinished Business. This has been done since the dawn of time, in other words. The promised graphical tweaks are just icing on the cake here.

Well at least in the orange box it came with an awesome puzzle game and a mini HL2 campaign. If they don't have a decent amount of new levels I'd just feel like it's a waste of money.

Also I wonder if they are going to improve the MP
