Are you insane? Skulltag is ONLINE ONLY, it's port alone is merely Zdoom with the ability to be played online. Look at the server list some time, and think before you talk.
Zdaemon on the otherhand is overdramatic, inferior, and a whole lot more of a hassle than Skulltag.

the moment i sat down to play quake 2 i instantly HATED it.
quake 1 - is speed chess with killing
This plus the fact Quake is open source is why I think Quake will be around 100 years from now. Unless some other game actually somehow repeats the secret formula.
Quake plus the mods like Capture The Flag, Rune Quake, Clan Arena and Rocket Arena really make the game fun. Plus you can do single player and cooperative, although that does necessarily interest all the multiplayer types.
quake 2 - is a crappy video game
I'm not sure what I was expecting when I first installed Quake 2, but it wasn't what I got. I wasn't really expecting a military base theme.
I don't know what I thought Quake 2 was going to be about, but Quake 1 was a strange and fascinating game when I first loaded it up and Quake 2 didn't give me whatever I thought I was going to get.
Plus the multiplayer wasn't like what I expected either.

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.
So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...
i remember when the first sega virtua-fighter arcade game came out, 1993. i was blown away by the click-response relationship. i always think of that when i talk about game engines - when i became aware of them. some people just dont have a grasp of a good engine. for me its the first and nearly only thing i notice.
quake 2 was just sloppy. so much emphasis on graphics that would be outmoded in a matter of months, so little emphasis on mechanics. slow, awkward, heavy are words that come to mind. quake 1 is clean, light, direct and extremely fluid. there are no open holes. halo1/2 is another good example of a kickass gaming engine. its so rare to see a good 3d real time game engine these days. everything is cpu-assisted movement or just another graphics package slag-job brushed up to sell millions to wide-eyed kids.
ps- trent reznor did the soundtrack. i mean come on. the whole thing was a classic piece of game art

Were you aware of Q2 when they were making it ? They did not hide the fact that it was going to be military bases, in the future, on an alien planet. And by did not hide, openly stated, and showed screenshots (and I love Quake but I still crapped myself when I saw a screenshot of a Gunner ducking successfully under the players rocket, such was unheard of at the time).
Quake2 is a different game. I like it, but its not a Quake, and thus in a way, I only compare it to Quake in the same way I would compare Quake to Unreal. Different games. It's deathmatch works for the weapon set quite well, just a different kind of tactical approach, and it had wonderful CTF (the exhiliration of an enemy BFG tearing through your base as you scramble to avoid it and then regroup in time to fire on the intruder). Quake2 is a terrible terrible terrible sequel to Quake and should never be considered such. Coincidentally, this link is the result of id lacking creativity when it came to a name. But on its own, its a fairly good sci-fi action with decent singleplayer, fairly fun multiplayer (that may not be preferable for the taste of some, but that is merely taste), and it has a fair amount of quite good singleplayer maps from the community.
Not the best game in the world, definitely flawed, I can think of numerous changes I would make... but also not the worst game.
You say that, yet you think you're great or in your words "awesome", and you are definately not "awesome". Someone truly "awesome" doesn't proclaim himself so... others think he is. It can never be proven due to the fact of how people joke so much on this board and I reluctantly ask: "Who thinks Bank is awesome?" You can never tell who is joking or not. You say that im stupid, yet you cant prove it. We can all call Bush stupid, because he is just that, stupid. But we have proof that he's stupid. You dont have proof that I'm stupid. ZDaemon has more players and features than SkullTag does. And SkullTag is NOT multiplayer only, I've played doom useing SkullTag before in singleplayer so...
1. you're trying to get people here to dislike me, or
2. you cant figure out how to do it, therefore you're in stupidity.

That may have been the single dumbest argument I've ever heard.
Skulltag is an online client, if you actually went to the website or actually played it, maybe you could open your thick skull.
I'm not trying to get people to dislike you, the point is that I dislike you.
See above for #2's answer.
And of course I say I'm awesome, I've repeatedly stated that I'm Narcessistic, vain, and self-loving. Not to mention awesome.
Foqer, arguing with me is like trying to move a mountain by spitting at it, it doesnt work. And all it amounts to is me wasting my time and you wasting your's. Not to mention that it takes up precious space on the threads. I try and reply to threads that address me, but you obviously have a Bank fetish as everything I say you feel the need to dispute.

There's no going further from this point, except for:
You said I should try skulltag. WTF? I mentioned SkullTag's singleplayer capability and if I'm able to compare it to ZDaemon in terms of players, etc...
And I'm sure you don't get much respect if you act the way you do in real life as you act here. To my understanding if you say how great you are without actually being great - that's loatheable.

Dont lecture me kid, I use the internet because I can do whatever I damn well please. To my understanding, if you have a stick shoved up your ass and cant leave best alone - you're annoying and unfun to be around.

Exactly. Comparing it to Quake is a bit unfair, because it's not a Quake sequel.
It's still very addictive and fun. Fighting bots is more fun in Quake, but poppin' Strogg is just as addictive as poppin' monsters. Quake has a little edge when it comes to level design though, as well as a bigger and more active mapping community.
When y'all grow up (thanks btw for turning this thread into a flame war), you'll hopefully realize that "Strogg Wars" is just a damn good game.
Similarities between "Strogg Wars" and Quake come down to the facts that they're by the same company, have similar gameplay mechanics and both are brainless shooters for people with a short attention span.
Now to adress some of the critics.
I think you can switch off the colored lights. The software engine doesn't have them either.
The "slow" weapon switching in "Strogg Wars" is balanced by the fact that unlike Quake, most weapons are good for something. You can blast your way through single-player with only the assault shotgun, for example, using other guns only sporadically and switching to the chaingun only when you're out of shells. (I did.)
The fact that in "Strogg Wars" you can "save" (collect) Quads makes this approach even more feasible. Let's say you round a corner with your double-barrel and there is a Tank Commander (a Shambler's Strogg equivalent). In Quake, you would perhaps select the shaft or SNG, or do a "shambler dance". In "Strogg Wars", you simply press "q" and get right in his face. No need to switch weapons.
In deathmatch, the quad is used immediately on pickup (default setting), but in DM you're not switching weapons very often anyway. When you must switch to a close-range weapon, there is a small delay of course, but remember that it is the same for your opponent. If you want to avoid this, use an all-purpose weapon like the chaingun or hyperblaster, or make sure you're not getting hit until you switched, or retreat and get a better position.
Another important asset is the Power Armor (an armor that is powered by your cell ammo). When you wear this in addition to your normal armor (and you should), you can just shake off one or two hits and take the time to switch to the chaingun or railgun (use the Force, dude.)
You can also just back up around the corner, switch to any weapon you want, and then continue kicking ass. Very easy.
You simply must keep in mind that it's not Quake when you discuss things like "slow weapon switching". There are other things that even it out (and it's not THAT slow to begin with.)
"Strogg Wars" is really pretty good. Like weed. (Quake is more like a coffee and a cigarette).
