far as i read, they tried to make Q1.QC compatible with idtech2 but they moved to DLL due to some errors

And I STILL haven't been able to upgrade from my Athlon 64 3500+. But at least I can just about get away with darkplaces with several features turned off yet using the HD texture packs and such. (1gb v-ram definitely helps)

I used to run a Windsor Athlon 64 x2 4600+ w/ a Nvidia 8500GT , I couldn't imagine getting away with it now though.

Stick with AMD when you upgrade and you won't go wrong.

Oh, I plan to. This little beast is amazing, might not run a lot of what I'd lilke it to, but it's incredibly stable. I've never really cared for intel myself, as good as they are, AMD just seems better for gaming.

Still don't know what GPU I should get, I'm thinking Nvidia GTX 680 or 7XX series, but that's a LOT of money. Any suggestions? Being how I'm using it heavily for a lot of video processing for hours on end and a lot of high end gaming, I can suck it up and save to get a high end card + correct cooling since I'm going to need to. But do you find either brand to be particularly better these days? (This is the first computer I'll have built since my fossil, so I'm really out of touch with hardware.)
