First --- now let's make this clear to everyone reading this thread --- it is great to have an opinion. And everyone has an opinion --- but you sort out the value of opinions by the ability to to get RESULTS.

So ... R00k, goldenboy --- it is wonderful that "in theory" you think you have the ability to drive traffic and interest to Quake --- but what is your experience actually getting results?

Spirit is a noble and honorable guy, as an example, and he does get some results, but he doesn't have the brass balls to lay it on the line so he misses opportunities.

And Spirit smokes both of you --- like leaves you in the dust --- in the ability to attract interest.

I have always had truck nutz for balls --- I'll go register at Quakeworld.nu to explain why I like NetQuake, I'd go to Func and tell them why QuakeOne was important even back when I didn't even know those guys. Etc. Etc.

Please don't give me the "here is my idea" crap. ---- Get some fucking results, then your opinion matters.

And I mean this in a friendly way --- don't jump the gun and post without letting this simmer a bit --- we are all friends here and we are all enthusiasts.

Baker hint #1: I stirred up a major controversy with Wolv or even one of our Quake buddies to get eyeballs and draw interest. Does anyone else here have those kinds of big nuts? No. Ok.

Baker hint #2: People liked to be talked about. Especially authors. Post about what they are working on. Even works in progress. Share. R00k --- until 6 months ago you never played a single player release --- what does this say about how hard you tailor your engine to others interests? Have you ever posted at Func Messageboard? If not, why not? How can your advise on traffic be any good if you don't have the interest or courage to do that??????

Baker hint #3: Be bold. Be friendly. Care. Make your case, expand your horizons.

Let's explore this and examine why YOU aren't me. If you get 300,000 - 500,000 visitors a year, maybe 35 of them are gonna be jerks and you are gonna lose your mind and flip out 3 or 4 times a month? Seriously?? What kind of admin would you be if you can't function under pressure????

I've had people say stuff 10,000 worse to me than what you did. And every other admin would want to ban them.

And then I'd stick up for the guy and say "Hey, look. This guy has a strongly held opinion and this is a free speech forum. This guy obviously cares --- and I know I want to hear what he has to say."

Thick skin is the characteristic of a true man. Criticism is the characteristic of someone who really cares, right? These are the people with the viewpoints that are important, they are saying "Hey, look you are doing things wrong" --- but they are too socially insecure to say it politely. But those people have important things to say.

I listened to those guys every single time. Wolv would mock me, call me names and I registered at his forum to explain that I was on his side, that I cared as much as he did, that I had a lot of respect for him but that I had a different approach.

Now consider that you are all raw nerves.

I'm sorry, but if you try to step up to the big leagues, you would fail because you can't deal with criticism. And this is something you will need to overcome and address it through personal growth --- should you wish to expand your horizons.

Now, you may dislike me for pointing this out --- but if it is true, why shouldn't I say it? And why aren't you man enough to acknowledge "Hey, what Baker said is true." Because you know it is true.

When I started engine development, I didn't know anything --- nothing. I didn't run when I got made fun for trying to learn. As an example --- sometimes it was hard, but I kept coming back for more.

You don't have thick skin. But you can change and learn this --- but it takes humility.

Getting angry isn't a sign of strength, it is a sign of weakness.

Which is being on the right track. But you also know I mean well and give constructive criticism --- even if I worded it "prickly" (as Monoz would say).

Every forum worth a damn is going to have trolls --- and some of the trolls are valuable members of the community or people that care.

You can't ban those people --- those are the ones that barely had the courage to post something they felt was important.

You control you. If other people can post something and you can't handle it, that is you not being able to control yourself. And you control you --- that control is at your own command, only someone with low self-esteem (or untrained) freely gives away their own self-control to someone else.

I wasn't trying to be a dick --- but I also didn't care if I was perceived as being one either --- I was explaining that if you think you can go "big time" you better be able to take the heat too that comes with that.
