While playing quake on quake.phathookups.com, I still had some frame loss and was complaining about it. Well, Tical generously told me that you had to turn Vsync off in your video card properties to obtain much greater fps (this was part of the reason he has such a low ping - and it lowered mine by a bit too - perhaps 10). Heres how you do it:
1. Right click on an empty desktop space
2. Click properties
3. Choose the settings tab
4. Hit Advanced
5. Click on the tab that has the name of your video card
6. Look around in these settings for anything about vsync. Turn it completely off. (I had to go to performance and quality settings => click on vertical sync => uncheck application controlled => move the slider down to off.) My video card is an Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 256 MB
The last step is to change your pq_maxfps to something higher, such as 300 or 500 if you can handle it. Experiment with pq_maxfps, to get the highest fps you can get without getting any connection lag. I set mine to 300, Tical has his set to 500.
Now I get NO hiccups or chops at ALL in the game, just smooth sailing 80-250 fps!
