Nehara has one-liners? I need to play that then

I still like the machismo from the '80... Probably Quake 2020 should have some

Serious Sam has many nice too, "Ok, we can do this the hard way or my way. They are basically the same thing."

He means the Nehahra movie I believe (or maybe not, I've never played the game) which I can't believe I sat through the whole thing but, it was actually really good for what it was. The ending made me want to throw something at the screen though.

Don't make me say the B word...

Daaaayuuuuum, Looks like we gonna need some new technicians...

how do I still remember this crap? I had like 200 posts or something when I watched this.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one. Four hours of machina done with the Nehara engine. It didn't look great, but it was damned funny.
I've seen things you people would probably believe. Machariels on fire off of Serpentis Prime. I watched tachyon beams glitter in the dark near the Tannolen gate. All of those moments will be lost in time... Like Drakes in the outer ring... Time to fly

I think you need a design, a cool looking prototype, and an actual team to kickstart games tbh.

Yeah. I just saw a video of reflex, which I think has been assisted by kickstarter. That game is Q3 on steroids. I know people like fast games, but it really makes it niche. Quake was at it's height when it was a much slower game than it is today.

I think Reflex failed its kickstarter tbh.

A Quake-like game that was successful at KS recently is Strafe. Mostly because it had a "funny" trailer though.

That game looks like it has single player.

Frankly, multiplayer-only games are a risk because if no one plays it, it may as well not even exist.

And even a viable multiplayer-only game lives or dies on constant social engineering (cheaters, jerks, spammers, crash exploits, server exploits, etc.).
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

that wickland looks neat... just a shame its purely arena-based multiplayer only

wrack i actually have myself, its kinda neat... its like doom but with robots and a futuristic sci-fi setting
...which is of course not surprising, seeing the game is made by one of the former developers of the skulltag engine
                        .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
                        > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread

I own both of these but have never installed them, like 90% of my Steam library.
                          Backlog shame...
I just had a look on the Wrack Steam forums and somebody has made a Quake to Wrack map convertor.
Also on the Steam workshop you can get conversions of (the shareware parts of) Doom and Wolfenstein for it.
And.... talk of a Quake TC

I guess I should install it and give it a go.

                            1. Move to a more graphically capable engine.
                            2. More insane gothic playground levels.
                            3. Higher enemy AI. Have ogres team on you etc.
                            4. Variant enemies.

In light of the advanced amount of games in 2015, I could see the next Quake being the following.

Single player: A long campaign. Each level is a mission that you need to enter. Before you enter the mission, you can buy weapons, armor and such at a base. You can also hire AI to help you in the mission. The AI become part of your team and get better as you play more missions with them. You can take on contracts on other worlds. other missions for $$$. The $$$ allows you to buy more AI, weapons, armor, etc. The actual gameplay stays Quake-like but the economy and these other things will get the newer generations of gamers involved and incentivize them to learn Quake style games.

Multiplayer: Both an economy mode and a straight up deathmatch mode with mosts aspects of NQ dm automated. Players just need to click multiplayer and it will match them with other players or they can choose teamgame and invite their team and wait for a pickup team to be created against them.

@omicron - Best answer. Best thoughts on actually making quake (reboot) something more than just a mod, as well. These other answers don't assume much more than modified weapons and new models, with little exception.
