theres a difference between coincidence and malicious intent. he knows who i am, and doesnt like me for whatever reason. like i said, he deliberately stole my aliases and, i have seen this, is insulting other players by calling them "******" and "loser" and "bot" and shit like that UNDER MY ALIAS. i will not tolorate someone degrading my reputation, whether its "legal" or not.

A good start would be posting this player's IP address. We all know there are troublemaking players scattered about everywhere, but so far in this post I haven't seen anything except a complaint -- which doesn't do anything.

Letting everyone know who this fine player is by posting their IP address would be a good start. It could very well be someone who is well known as a trouble maker.

I can remember a time a few months ago some fool was playing as "Baker" and calling a lot of different people "******" and using other fine vocabulary. I thought it was funny, everyone who knows me knows I never haved played as Baker on public servers (which confuses a lot of people, but hey -- I don't care).

The chance of someone having the alias Bank is fairly likely. The chance of that same person passing off as me is unlikely.

Let's consider that I now have several aliases, some of which are very generic. (Like Bank for that matter)

The chance of someone having that alias (copied or otherwise) is likely. The chance of that same person passing off as as my is still unlikely. BUT-

Now that you've retired names you cannot be angry when someone uses them. Especially if they're outrageously generic.

You have one name. That's it. There is no room for others.

Ive been scar3crow for 12 years now roughly. I like it, when I look at the name, it looks like me - though in person to person conversation, Im David, not scar3crow. My only real protection from others using it is to be more known. Dominate search returns through personal proliferation and work. There are a few other scar3crow's out there, including some goth middle eastern guy (who apparently has download links to entire albums on his blog...) and some Counter Strike players, who do soil my good name... but I fight back by continuing to use my name and use it well and often. The only time I used another name was out of shame for my lack of skill these days at Quake. I used to play under the name bobthebuilder because of it. I stopped using it when I won a match on shmack - got the strength rune, rl, some rockets and RA in a quick turn of fate and soared past the rest.

I had a look at the console before i closed the game down. he called Cloudy and a few others i am currently on good terms with different insults after they killed him ingame. thats the part that bothers me the most. if he just remained quiet or even just stuck to insulting ME, i probably wouldnt go to any lengths to get rid of him. but if he is going to insult my "friends" under my name, i wont accept that at all.
another thing about him that bothers me, i have no idea in hell who he is, or why he hates me. he just showed up on Shmack one night under the name Loki and started talking shit to me completely unprovoked. i also saw him under another alias i cant remember. however, that alias i had seen before, and at one time, knew the real person who used it. this leaves me to believe that i am not the only one whos aliases he is stealing.

I new I shouldve addressed it when I made my last post - and Im rather stunned no one else knew it exactly... Doppelganger is rough German for Look Alike. It is typically used to connote a darker side of someone. For example the doppelganger of spiderman.

Sometimes I am not sure if the arguments between Quad and Canadian Sniper are in Quad's stories or in real life and which one I'm remembering.

Didn't we come to the conclusion when these stories started that the names used in quake are actually fictional and no "one" person can call claim to them? There could be 10 P.I.T.A.'S and if the games stats were still up from way back when you would see that there were. Most of us know to check the IP's more so when the person acts out of character. Once you change a name I would assume you have tossed/abandoned the old one in preference for your new one. Most of these names are NOT original to game play. Prime Example. Should the name Thresher be used by anyone other then Thresher? Has been, we've all seen it. Until you legally Trademark it the name doesn not belong to you. If you can afford to trademark it and pursue the legal action for such offenses. Good for you.
