Baker ,I could have the same attitude torwards QW but I keep it mostly bottled up. I think its a waste of Quake community,it was originally intended as a better form of online gaming for the Q1 community, but now I look at it as a thorn in the Q1 community's backside, becuz now,you have two forms of Q1.

NQ > QW , every day all day baby !!

ps : Ive always considered QW trash, even as a dialup gamer back in the day. Tried it,hated it,deleted it. I recently tried it again, havent done anything with it since. Probably delete it again as well rofl.

QW back in the day owned NQ, simply cause it was much better for a HPB. Having a 250 ping on NQ was like skiing with a bottle of wax poured on the bottom of your skis, then trying to navigate down death mountain with a hungry polar bear on your trail and mines exploding underneath your feet.

QW is ass on wheels; wasnt the entire basis of it to improve netcode for the 97% of players that didn't have .edu or isdn access in early 1997? Aren't we past that by now? GAY SHIT FUCK DAMN

I think people that say they like vis are sucking up to him because they don't want to be banned. Rage is a communist server!

                    Welcome to Rage.

The first rule of Rage is you don't talk about Rage.
The second rule of Rage is you don't talk about Rage.
The third rule of Rage is when someone says "stop" or goes limp, the fight is over.
Fourth rule is only two guys to a fight.
Fifth rule one fight at a time.
Sixth rule no shirts, no shoes.
Seventh rule fights go on as long as they have to.

And the eighth and final rule if this is your first night at Rage, you have to fight.

P.S Almost forgot. ----> <---- Its called a joke! Take it like a man!

In my opinion, at the time, QuakeWorld is exactly what the community needed. On my 14.4 and later 28.8, QW was playable, I could make a decent attempt of playing online and enjoy it. I couldnt do the same with NQ. However like all technology that is accomodating to a temporal condition, by its very nature its primary function will fall to the side. Im not on dialup anymore, and as a polar opposite of 96-2000 the majority of people I know arent either. It has unfortunately caused a split, just due to protocols. This would be a moment for me to push DarkPlaces, but I think at this point Im expected to do that. Anyways, I agree, it does create two forms of Quake, and the scenario that catalyzed QW's existence has largely passed.

And thats a huge fucking thing, theres a reason you can always find a 12+ player game going on the Amnesia MegaTF server - people still like it. TF has expanded beyond Quake into the nerfed ugly (without the awkward charm) form of TFC, and the unimaginative TF2, but it is without a doubt a very popular mod, and that is a big thing going for it. TF is the reason I have QW clients on my machine.

I dont play at Rage, it runs CA, which I find to be actively boring. But I do like other mods, and fun things, and marshmallows somedays.

after i got banned from rage i went and played some QW and it is so friggin easy its not even funny.. like im not saying i was the best, but on the server anyone could score top frags.. every match it was someone new winning.. its so simple just takes a day to get used too. nq is more of a challenge, takes more skill..

I played NQ back in the day with a 350+ ping and I dealt with it. QW sucked back then and it still sucks.

Quakeworld really isn't a game, it is a community in the sense that (Net)Quake isn't a game, but a community.

I think the game play in Quakeworld cannot compete with regular Quake on a solid server with good ping and I think this is well known even within the Quakeworld community, which is why they pretend regular Quake does not exist and don't even like it mentioned whereas most (Net)Quake players are indifferent to Quakeworld.

But Quakeworld when viewed as a community has done a LOT of impressive things. They have done some amazing stuff with their clients and server-side engines, some really admirable stuff.

The whole Quake vs. Quakeworld argument doesn't interest me very much, I suppose, because I actually don't think a meaningful divide exists in the region I care about (USA). Few Quakeworld players in the US play anything except TeamFortress and highly organized team games like TF and CTF aren't really my thing, heheh.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

yes,but the point still remainds valid , which is that now you have two entirely different forms of quake. People like JPG who capitolized NetQuake and created "The Standard", but refuse to either 1]release their shit for another coder to work on, or 2]pickup their project and make a new release is why you'll never see any form of NQ and QW mingling together. I am by no means a programmer,or know anything about QW or NQ protocol's or netcoding, etc etc..... but there is a huge gap between NQ and QW , and you'll never see a bridge built between the two. Everytime I think about how JPG refuses to help better the Q1 NQ community,I just want to fucking choke someone til they turn blue and stop breathing.

                              I <3 Quake

I assume you're talking about the lack of continued support of Proquake. What exactly do you want him to do?
