It's good to hear some ideas on how to make the ng better, because it sucks. It shouldn't get replaced by the sng. If I do implement the ng to be unique and better (I don't want to stray too far from vanilla quake), it would no longer be a starting weapon.
Peg - I have a request. Could you look at the e2m6 source and find that start-blocker which appears in deathmatch? Tell me the entity id or something. that's all I need. I'll use Darkplaces to create an .ent file for that map and get rid of it. It's a hassle when you teleport from exit to start in that map.
It saddens me that there are people that disagree with the WARP feature but aren't posting these thoughts on this thread. I want it all here gentlemen.
I've heard some very good points:
people would skip a lot of great maps, just to play in their "comfort zone", aka, the same old maps over and over, and then its back to the same old servers =(
And my opinion is that one person disliking a map doesn't mean everyone thinks that way. I personally think that not using all the possible id maps in the rotation is garbage. Map size doesn't matter because there's a frag and time limit. So if a game ends with 15 frags in total, it still ends with a winner or tie.
Note that not everyone likes every map but every map has at least one person liking it. I'm trying to be fair here. My opinions only though.
i like the rotation as it is.. forces us to play maps that i haven't played in a long time.. which is a good thing! (even tho i don't really like em all)
warping to custom maps might not be bad idea tho.. or making a new "episode" of a fair number of good custom maps (stick em in the rotation behind the id dm maps for example)
