steam works good..hey guys look at it this way..if steam hosts a buncha servers for quake1 and alotta ppl that 1.forgot about it 2.thought it was dead or 3.never played it before..will most likely buy the game on steam thus making the population bigger and than we could just use our quake clients and connect to those populated servers..may not work but i think it will..and theres a very good chance that this will be the only way q1 will ever be popular again..

you know..its funny. I had a fear of this happening actually...but after reading some posts on here, I realize it really might be good for more people. I just hope they'll polish it up good, theres still people out there that are completely unaware of these amazing gl enhanced engines. do you guys know if Quakeworld is on there as well? its going to be interesting to see how this works!

I'm sure that they would not offer anything except the standard GLQuake/WinQuake and equivalent qwcl executables that they originally offered.

I bought 5-6 games on steam, never had a problem with one.

I just don't know how people are supposed to use custom engines and stuff with steam. :/

The only problem I have with steam is the fact that you don't have a hard copy of the game. That's enough to make me not buy games on it.

not to mention if you get "caught" cheating even if you were or were not you will be banned from all VAC certified servers which includes all your games on steam. So you will be stuck playing on non-cheatfree servers which there arn't near as many as VAC cert'd servers.

So don't cheat or your $200 Half Life collection goes down the hole, quick.

yea thats true..but it bans by engine only..example: if you cheated on a source game you'll be banned from all source games only..so if you had hl1 games they would not be banned aswell as all your other games

Sok, I don't mind downloading them. I purchased Day of Defeat last year, got tired of playing it and started playing something else. Before long I forgot about Steam and reloaded it this past Friday. They still had my account and I was able to get the game I paid for long ago.

As far as cheating... um, don't do it?

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

question #1: what is used to run quake1? winquake? glquake? another quake engine?
question #2: is there an id1 folder in the quake1 directory that allows us to customize the game?
