Team Fortress and such....

    Sorry havent been around much tonight. Was busy with clan stuff for TF2. Anyhow, I tried connecting to the server but wasnt able to connect. is it still up?

        ok, well i just tried again and there are several of us who are unable to connect to it. when you said "it was briefly" did that mean it was up briefly or the server is down or what?


        edit: also, one guy is getting this error message when trying to connect to any nq server using qrack:

        the procedure entry point curl_Easy_perform could not be located in the dynamic link library libcurl.dll

          It was up briefly.

          I don't have direct access to the server. Just FTP and the server password.

          Unfortunately, during the test the server crashed with an error that doesn't work with the looping script to restart the server.

          As a result, only someone with SSH to the server (or the control panel or what not?) can restart it. Not very convenient for testing admittedly.

          The HDZ box mostly has very mature mods running on it that have been stable for years, so this type of problem doesn't come up often. I'll have to find out from someone who can reset it and how they can be contacted.

            The reason I ask, I just duplicated what Peg did to crash the server by running that map and once you get that gun from the rack near the kevlar thing, the server console goes crazy haywire with "SZ_GetSpace: overflow" errors.

            After doing some research on the error, it seems about 95% certain the problem is the map and overflowing with entities.

            I'm going to remove that one out.

              I honestly don't think I have ever played it and if I have..it was obviously briefly enough to forget about it.

                yea, colony1 isnt worth it. It's not played very much. now canyon1 is pretty fun so dont get those mixed up.

                  So far my efforts to contact Avalanche and/or Vis have not been successful.

                  Avalanche appears to be perpetually signed on #quake1, yet never there to read messages (and the email address I have for him doesn't work).

                  I sent Vis a text message and it appears he never got that or never read it.



                  If someone can somehow get ahold of him and ask him to reboot the dredd.quakeone.com, this could get going a lot further.

                        I haven't forgotten about this. So far stuff has been inconvenient and HDZ isn't an ideal testing ground for non-stable mods.

                        Avalanche has the server reset (thanks Ava!) [I restored it to Dredd Cax mod], but I'm going to see if I can do testing elsewhere. Maybe on Flanders 26002 if Polarite will allow that, just needs to be a server that can be reset fairly easily if something bad happens.

                        Then after it is stable, I'll load it on HDZ (pretty good pings for USA players generally).

                        It might be a few days before I can get super dedicated to this again (I've got too many distractions at the moment), but it will happen plus I'm going to add multi-mod support to the server.

                        Yes it sucks that yet again it is going to be at least a few more days, but everyone will forget that very quickly when it is operational and apparently ... debugged.

                          What is the status of this project? Was a stable server able to be established?

                          I spent many hours a day during college playing TF and loved every minute of it. After finding out there are still people who are interested in playing the original TF I decided to try and give it a go myself.

                          I used to have the full version of Quake and the TF mod on my computer back in college but it and the CD are long gone, so all I have is a shareware version (nQuake) I downloaded along with the nqtf ez setup from a few pages back, but I cant get it to launch. I keep getting the message "could not load OpenGl subsystem", which I've read has to do with graphics card compatibility. The computer I'm on now, which is a few years old itself, just has the built in card, so I'm trying to figure out my other options.

                          I found the regular WinQuake program and could connect to Quake 1 servers but kept getting disconnected from them or when I could stay connected I couldnt see anything that was going on or join in. I'm guessing its a quakeworld server compatibility issue. It's been waaay too long since I did any of this to remember for certainty the cause.

                          At any rate, hope this server gets off the ground...if I can ever get any of my issues worked out I'd love to join in a game. I was a damn good pyro.

                            For those of you who are interested in Quake TF but want some idea of what it was about, I've been posting my old QWTF demo files on YouTube. Just about everything up there is from my own collection, but I've recently acquired a lot of other people's demos and I'll be posting many of them to YT soon.

                              I've been playing different TF servers over the last week and despite them being original TF theres not much "original" about it. It's all fancy weapons and no skill...how sad.

                                Sorry to bump an old thread, but this is for getting back in touch! SHOCKLTK, avirox. I was ZyloxxLTK I'm always up for getting Quake TF up and re-living the nostalgia.
