Well, this may be the 300th time we're rehashing the same Kimp/Splint versus everyone thing. I know a lot of people have been really turned off from the forums because of it, me for one. However, it seems that it's become somewhat trite by repetition, since this particular permutation of the conversation doesn't seem as venomous as most of the previous ones. Perhaps we are all, finally, at long last, starting to get over it?
I'd like to propose two ideas, and I think that if we all accept these we can continue to work towards getting over "it":
1. Kimp has an uncanny ability to commit minor acts of evil against the Quake community. Sometimes these ruin games but mostly seem to be a minor annoyance.
2. Splint has an even more uncanny ability to get under the skin of every single person on the forums; to draw them into his web of obfuscation (as Baker says), to subvert their statements by assimilating them to suit his extremely skewed worldview, to be an ass towards pretty much everyone in sight, and then to turn around and hide behind a laughable veneer of self-righteous indignation. For him, the ends justify the means, the defense of Kimp is his cause, and everything is justified in pursuit of that cause. He is a mistaken martyr, the mistake being that he's chosen to sacrifice himself to an ignoble cause, rather than an honorable one. He will continue to draw more people into his web, so we should expect that, and try to keep our cool when it happens.
