Honestly baker, at this point, I figure let them have the forums.
The way I understood it, this forum was for the players, we have forums for the modders and mappers too.
This is what the players want, why not let em do it?
I'll check the frontpage once in a while to see if theres anything I missed,
but mostly I just stay the hell away.
I dont play competetive quake anymore anyways, I enjoy the modding scene.
Although I really dont get why they dont just do that shit over IRC.

IMO, the dramatic threads are pretty well separated from the technical and project threads... You can spot a drama thread pretty easily... and it is just a click away from not reading it.
I wouldn't be able to hold some of the conversations I do, over IRC.
Real-time chat would consume all points and discussions in seconds... (scrolling up and away into the voids of nothingness) whereas the forums... hold the discussions for years and can be revisited and referenced over and over again. Plus with the forums, you can attach multi-media to enhance discussion.
IRC would be best used as a method of getting a game together for the immediate moment... or a "Hey! How are yah?"

I haven't done anything wrong. You think my absence will make QuakeOne.com better?

How bout we create a new section on the forums and name it "Shyttalk lounge", then force a rule (though the whole thing seems silly anyway from experience) the rule is "If you're gunna bash someone, do it here and pray they repond to bash you back". That would give people a place to vent when they're not in Quake but on the forums to discuss various actions others might have taken place which pissed them off. Any "real shittalkn/bashing/whatever" done outside this new section gets modded and warnings are sent out with a 2 strike rule with an attached 1 week ban to remind them where they should have posted.
Nothing says "get inline" like taking away privileges such as posting on a forum.
Some issues that might crop up from this would obviously be, users making new accounts (shouldn't be to hard to spot/block with a ban for the usual suspect but if someone goes that far they should be banned repeatedly or permanently), a possible rally party for the non-banned shittalker and his posse (though this can be more entertainment then an issue).
I'm all for free speech but there's also a place and time for everything any person with common sense should know that. Giving people the place to "vent" other then General Chat solves half the issue let them find the time.

What am I doing that is right? Where do I begin?
Let's see... there is a whole epic discussion about this guy named Kimp... he is a victim of a social phenomenon (Mahnahmahnah!)... you should really check it out... Just do a forum search for the word: "Kimp"
Anyway, unlike anyone else, I get to know this guy a little better than most... I end up discovering that he is a real smart guy, knows anything you would ever want to know about Quake, he is a programmer, and has shown me that he has integrity... He doesn't ask much of anyone, loves to organize events, and is quick to forgive those who have betrayed and mistreated him.
My "right" is not be swept up by the popular opinion, and to hold my own throughout my experience...
I have also had to defend other unpopular subjects keeping my cool, and using humor as a tool to somewhat bait civil oriented discussions. I don't over season my words with profanity or name calling. I give people credit when they are right, and I entertain other peoples points of view.
What do you do right?
"To be continued..."
