    • Alright all, i been playing Quake since 96 on my old olivetti 486 66mhz beast of a machine! My mate's and i used to gather round the pc playing quake in a res of 320 and then shrunk down the screen to the size of a matchbox, damm it looked sweet! hehe. Still used to play for hours though. Remember connecting 2 pc's up with old serial cable stretched across my room playing DM2 for hours, what a danger zone!! Fun though

Used to make a few lvls with worldcraft and mod alittle, but really used to enjoy the raw speed of Quake. Love all the mods also, fav used to be QRally and the Classic PainKeep, that why i had to setup a server

I got Quake installed at work on a few pc's, when it gets late and less customers come into the store we have alittle Quake LAN goodness, finishes the day off so well

      Cheers

            • I am the Lizard Queen.
My real name is Jason but I have many online handles, the oldest from 1993 is LrdVaderX (when I was a pimply middleschooler with peach fuzz on my lip) using Compuserve on my IBM 486DX with 8 MB of RAM playing Doom. Later when Quake came in 1996 when I had my blazing fast Pentium 90 mhz with 16 MB of RAM I changed my alter ego name to Wookiestick. Recently I've joined a "loose" rock band as a singer called The Dead Tenors (we just do covers-- we play for fun) so I sometimes go by the handle of Dead Tenor or WookieTenor.I loved Quake back in the day for being cutting edge and it's H.R. Gigerish/Lovecraftian influences and I used to play it with dialup direct connect back in the day, and also through the now defunct T.E.N. I played a little Team Fortress and I absolutely loved Painkeep. Admittingly I shelved Quake in a dusty box for some years until it went open source.
Now that I am interested in Quake again I have been trying to encourage people to download a cooperative mod that I totally love. It's called Kleshik coop. Check out this thread

I have a dedicated server I run which can be found using Darkplaces. I find people are often joining but because they don't have the mod installed they leave because there are many missing sounds and artwork. So spread the word!:d

              • Hi, I started playing quake1 right when it came out in 1996. I remember the first pre-3wave CTF mods that came out, and the original launch of 3wave CTF. Everyone online idling in mirc waiting for it to show up, and going to town playing it when it was officially uploaded. I played mostly CTF and enjoyed it very much. I was in clan reddragon early on, and later clan 4th and deadly onslaught. I remember playing on erols, texas.net, hating, also on clubcam and teamplay (where i was an admin).

I think I played until about 2001. Since I got married in 2004, it has been hard to get time for gaming :-) Anyway, its nice to see people still around.

                • I've known about quake ever since I got into Doom, but never actually played any besides three(Not... my kind of game). So a couple of days ago I bought Quakes One and Two(Through Steam... not my best move). I've been going through Quake with ProQuake and so far it's a pretty good game, very much like Doom. That is to be expected though, it IS made by id. In any case, I'm coming from playing a lot of Doom, just so you know.

Hey guys... I'm Vrednii. I started playing quake in about '97 when my older brother and his friend got into it a lot. My name was Buster, I was a part of TC. My brother was Quakinator and his friend was INSOM / INSOMNIAC. They were in TA ( something Assassins, can't remember ). We also had a friend named INCOGNITO ( let me know if you know any of these names ). Between my brother and I it was a battle about who got to play the computer we loved quake so much. My favorite mod was SCTF with the runes / plasma gun / sniper rifle... add that to a reptile rune mmmmmmm. Anyway, I'm excited to be back and hone my skills again.

                        • Well, I guess the old man should step up and intro himself.

I started playing Quake around 96 or so... I created a piece of junk map that we played at work, then went on to create 2 Q1 DM maps and a CTF map that was included in the second map pack for Thunderwalker CTF. The map is twctf2m7 - Test for Echo, and is still being played some today.

I soon joined forces with Dolomite and the mapping team called Dteam. We were hosted on Captured.com and put out a few maps. We eventually went separate ways and I formed Team 3. We went on to create many maps, including several maps for the mod by Kunani called Capture! (later included on the Q2 Extremeties CD), Thunderwalker 2, and by far the most popular L-Fire CTF. I created 2 maps that were part of the first L-Fire CTF map pak (lfctf1 - Neurotica and lfctf3 - Counterparts). By far the most fun project was something g1zm0 and I came up with called WTF?CTF. This map pak included some rather insane CTF maps where you have small rooms, 2 flags per side, single weapon per level, and enough ammo to blow up the earth. It was insanely intense/fast-paced action. Oddly enough a new Halo3 mod called "Grifball" is very similar (in it's craziness and intensity).

I just resurrected the old Team 3 site and it can be found here:Team 3. I have gotten in touch with a few of the old guys but I can't say we're "active" anymore. Then again, you never know...

When I started playing, SCTF was still around but seldom/never populated. Never really got to see that mod in action.

Nothing more fun than making a contribution and having it be continually used :d

                            • sup. i'm cinsere. most ppl just call me cin. or Rob. I started playing quake in 1997 on heat.net, as well as mplayer. after a while a friend told me about netquake and i never looked back. i've had my periods of absence from the game, as well as played other games over the years.... but i always came back to,(in my opinion), the best FPS online pc game ever made. Quake. I also played Quakeworld for a couple years, witch game me a differnt respect for the game. Also i'd like to add, and thank the people that run this site, and the players that stay active on it. Quake has always been a great game, but didn't always have great players. Over the years alot of people cheated, flooded people or servers, or were just plain Aholes. But i've noticed that the people who are still around these days playing this game we all love, are in general good people. We have a good, strong gaming community for a game as old as this is. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone still keepin this game kickin. The players, the admins of this site, the people who so generously keep servers running, and anyone else i forgot. QUAKE WILL NEVER DIE!
