    Nice!

    I can't wait if they do make quake 5 like quake 1.

    The reason i loved quake one was the environment, the mood, and just the way they made the textures and all the creatures combine to make it feel like your sucked into a living piece of art.

    All the following quakes, became more and more distant to me, with space and junk. The graphics did improve alot, however it didn't suck me into the game like original quake 1 did.

    An it wasn't nearly as scary.

    BTW for old doom/wolf fans, u can get doom RPG and doom II RPG and wolfstein RPG, on your mobile at Mobile Games, iPhone Games, Cell Phone Games | EA Mobile.

    ~Cheers.

      Agreed, but Quake II is actually quite a good game and Quake 4's pretty good as well. What about Quake 3? It had Quake 1 atmosphere in some maps.

        Had it's atmosphere, however it was a botbased DM game - not running through castles, getting keys and fighting your way to the exit.

          Quake 3 only had it's atmosphere a little bit. To me it was more like quake lite with some castle-esque levels. On a whole the whole thing felt very different than Quake 1... even when you upgrade Quake 1 it always had a darker more rustic and sinister feel to it.

            Very true, they did go with the gothic look - but it wasn't overall "Quake Style". However understandable as to why - the map and look did have to match the other themes of the game. Even the gothic maps usually had some tech to them.

            I just hope they do it in the style I mentioned. Quake 1 was epic and it's spawned the most sequels of any id game. I wouldn't want to see a "remake" really - but rather a alternate storyline or a parallel storyline like I said. New character fighting in a different dimension (entered a different slipgate). They could do the PDA idea like I said or even have Ranger occasionally come in via voice com saying what he's doing (and have it represent Q1 events). Doing this idea would allow them to remake the enemies and add in ones which are completely new without changing the game really. DooM 3 failed at this as it changed the classic enemies without reason. This idea gives that freedom as it's basically a different world so a (as a example) hairless scarred up drooling Shambler could be done without us going "why'd you do that to our hairy white Shambler?!" - different world so obviously they can be different than others.

              The worst thing about Quake 3 is that they mixed gothic with tech. But maps like Grim Dungeons seemed to be Quake 1 themed and also The Place of Many Deaths. Quake 3 actually was going to be a fully Quake 1 themed game, some point they changed their minds.

                They were smart too, Quake 2 did get a equal (if not bigger) following than Quake 1. So making it fully Quake 1 would of left those fans out. Making full tech would of left Q1 fans out - so they mixed the 2 together.

                  Actually it was going to be fully Quake 2 themed as well and if you look at some early shots the graphics actually looks better.

                  Early Campgrounds:

                  In my opinion, this looks 10 times better. And not so damn bright.

                  Early Dredwerkz:

                      Quake itself is a mix of tech and dungeon, though, so I don't see the point there.

                        I hate how people say Doom 3, Quake 4 and id Tech 4 is a failure. When Quake 3 was first released everyone was complaining about how Quake 3 and id Tech 3 sucked.

                        Which is awful, what would a floating light be doing in a gothic medieval themed map?

                          Well some tech does make sense it isn't Earth medieval times - after all we have Ogre's using Chainsaws and Grenade Launchers, Armagon which has lasers and rockets, Centoid firing nails. So some tech does make sense.

                            Q2 made me angry b/c of swear kicking online. LoL.

                            As for, the gameplay of it single player style. Its not known to me, as i never tried it single player.

                            Quake 3 i did play single player b4, and it was kinda fun. I liked the soundtrack more than the game.

                            I never did play q4 at all, so i can't comment on that at all.

                            But, the "may go back to q1" for q5 release, has me excited.

                            I just felt they did an excellent job at blending everything together.

                            An the (addon packages) were kickass too for q1.

                            The names are escaping me atm.

                            I'll cheat an steal the names from id's site:

                            Source of Armagon

                            Dissolution of Eternity.

                            ^_^

                            Q3 i felt the maps where' a little larger then they should've felt. But it may of been my fov, as i don't think i knew how to adjust that in Q3.

                            Shrugs.

                            Eitherway i'm excited to see updated Q1 Enemies, and (the old kind've level environments) in updated graphics done by the offical makers of the game. ^^

                              I disagree- Doom 3 was fantastic (and partly because id convincingly showed a scenario where the dimensional walls between Hell and Mars were coming apart- and a room that seemed like a hitech base would without warning crumble away into a burning dimensional abyss;
                              Quake 4 was crap simply because it was badly executed; the Strogg were more goofy than scary (something I did not think possible) and it carried Doom3's linearity but left out the atmosphere that made the linearity of Doom 3 actually a stimulant (that is, Doom 3 had atmosphere that in turn made the linearity a fear-factor; you don't realize it's linear, you just think "oh no, I don't want to go down THAT door, surely there's another way!")

                              Quake 3 was fantastic artistically (plain castles and plain bases are good in small doses, but parts where abstract details collided (including architectual features made of flesh, walls made of flayed skin or tendons, skeletal avatars made of steel pipe, TV screens with human faces lodged into them, etc)- that's where it really shone!

                              And it does remind me a lot of Quake- id didn't care what matched, whether rivetted steel walls and pipes were actually medieval- same way they didn't really care about using Christian symbols, witchcraft symbols, satanic symbols etc interchangably- they just added what looked creepy and made something new.
                              The feel I got from Quake was that it wasn't medieval Europe at all- but some twisted dimension full of crazed humanoids who may well be almost as advanced magically/technologically/metallurgically- but put their skills to making portable panzer suits and hand-held industrial cutters instead of armour and sword- because they never left their mindset after Quake got to them.

                              Or of course, Quake himself did some renovations, or the constant damage to the space-time continuum started displacing bits and pieces of other dimensions into others (sorta like the way bits and pieces of Hell started crashing with the Mars Base in Doom 3).

                              Besides, if they have magic- who says they wouldn't start using that to substitute things like lighting, heating, incinerators and work machines?

                              Plus, Q3A opens another interesting link to Quake 1:
                              That each 'tier' is actually its own dimension; and some are purely gothic, some are purely mechanical, some organic, some bizarre mixtures of all the above.

                                For further inspiration of hitech and gothic coming together well, (aside from situations where modern architecture is used to prop-up, or replace sections of a decaying, crumbling castle)

                                Check out some of the LvL Quake 3 maps!

                                "Edge of Forever" shows an interesting Wizard's castle with some Tesla Coils
                                "Destroyer" by Shadow shows some good mixture of placing some tech inside a castle
                                "The Black Realm- special edition"
                                "Saint Tourney 1"
                                The best is "Timeless classic"- it's actually quite a creepy map- and I reckon perfect for many of the more gothic maps;

                                Having said that, check out some of the more abstract maps some people come up with;
                                One even shows a lightning strike demolishing an old mediterranian bell tower- frozen in time (Estatica, I think it's called).
