"Quake" Opensource Name Poll

No not a completely new game.

Wait a second... this is a completely new game right? If I read the other thread correctly it's not a Quake related game at all, is it? Quake and the Quake/Mod community are just the inspiration, no?

If that's the case we can be creative with naming without trying to be Quake'ish!

This will be an Open-Source project that, while not being a clone of Quake, will be similar and reminiscent. The project will have all replacement content. All models, monsters, weapons, ammunition, textures will be replaced.

I need a good name to assign to the project before attempting to recruit. I need to wrap this poll up fairly quickly now, I can't leave some things hanging around while waiting for a name. If the community doesn't want to be involved in the naming - that's okay, I'll make one up myself and move from there.

I think a front-page poll with all the 2nd round sugggestions ( FreeQ > Tremor ) would be best.

QuakeR00t I think you should absolutely not rush into this... all i've read is good from you and others. If it was me, I would take like 6 months minimum to start this project (I meant to be ready to start).

You should see this as a "consultation" but to me it needs at least 3 months to achive a concensus or a global idea.

Please take the time... and you will find help/partners/result... you can count on me 200% if we can make it without rushing anywhere.

I already said it many times and recently to you in private but I think one of the very best option is:

I would prefer IQ (would also mean "I (fokin) Quake" & "Intelectual Quotient"... which is what Q1 is to me... lot of talented/inteligent/creative people).

Google Hangout

QuakeR00t (I've renamed you with a double zeros since you got my upmost respect like R00k, W00lv and many other doubles around... but not Kimp... he never been respectful).

I don't want to disregard quake0ne.c0m but I do not encourage you to work exclusively here for that kind of project... already to me it is pretty messy but I dont want to get in details about it cause it's not my objective.

I made lot of research couple months ago when we had to stop using Ventrilo (just couple of guys here and around) but to GT Google Hangout is a very great tool which only requieres a gmail account (the email is enough). Mindz thought (still) that you need google+ but you don't... I'm using it all the time without it (but I should go with g+ since it's probably great). But be advised it seems to work the best with Internet Explorer... didn't really tried it with other browsers (may be but if I'm on IE... it is for a very good reason). I found a way to get a "permanent" chanel there (it's a little tricky but I can make it).

When on the channel you can simply chat, use voice, video chat, phone, youtube in direct (to record the meeting which I'd recomend you and will explain later) etc etc etc etc.

Just a quick note about your comments etc... you (may be someone else) talked about marketing but I would strongly recommend to focus on PR first.

The best approach would be to find someone representative like Mindz, Baker, R00k to get in touch with couple of people/business I've already targeted (but far than complete).

Who could be our "spokesperson"??


Someone called me the QI Bob Costas online probably cause of the Qrack Videos I do lol... I'm more like Sean McCormack in life (past life)... but not about Q1 so don't ask me to call ID President or J. Romero ok!

There are legit reasons I want a name quickly. Everything starts with the name, and this project is not exclusive to this site, it's starting here but will be growing. the project will stay in idea-mode for some time with ideas bouncing between everyone.

Once I have a name I can reserve a url, and finish out the site - I can finish the banners, advertise that I'm recruiting at, moddb, Func_Msgboard, Google+, & Facebook. Then I need to find people to help me run them. If I don't have infrastructure in place when I start recruiting, who is going to take me seriously?

You flatter me, thank you for thinking highly of me. That empowers me to be better. GT google hangout looks cool, I may add it to the list of options. The site I'm working on comes with a chat feature and customizable forums... Which do you think would be more effective?

Honestly... I don't (yet) have all the talents I want to be an integral (developer) part of this project. I am the spokesperson. Besides the names you've given me (and I will shortly be talking their ears off) if you have ideas for contacts, publications, gaming magazines, etc - let me know, I'm open, and I'm willing to work with other co-spokesman. This will not be a One-Man-Show, I will need all the help I can get and I will not turn anyone away unless they are disruptive.

I'm going to be hitting the ground running, this will be a great growing/learning experience.

But first I need a name before we can really get to work.

This "logo" (name too since it's just a letter Q + I) took me 2 min now making it better is just normal... bbiab with something.

Criticism... I went pretty far in life (physically and mentally) cause I took it the right side and learned (not enough �English yet but heyh).

I knew and realise I need to much better check your project in details... so I know me and I'm already upset... lol

I don't want to go in details (again and again) about the project I'll make my homework BUT what is the timeline (seems very short for the name).

If you wanna be productive... don't go in detals... just give a short answer... if I need details I'll ask... up to you hey!
