        Yeaaah, I don't think anyone is going to pay for a free and open sourced Quake to be made. I mean, I'm sure you could find some donators but it's highly unlikely you will find any investors. Unless by luck some well-off Quake enthusiast is willing to pitch money down a hole, just because he/she loves Quake.

        It's better without investors anyway. Investors have their own agenda and will pull the plug on you for simply not making what they will now consider to be their game.

            You right... it's not investments... it's Q1 enthusiast.

                Interesting.... I'd have to setup a paypal account.

                I'm all for being able to pay participants - or at the very least provide some commercial tools that will make the process easier. However, there needs to be some paperwork written up and some VERY specific guidelines. If you can raise money, the donators need to understand it's a donation to a Open Source Project.

                As such the project goals will evolve according to the teams decisions, and not those of the donator - the donator is not an investor and should not consider themselves such - it's a flat out, donation - with no strings attached.

                Let me see if I can get some paperwork written up.

                    It would be very cool to compensate developers for their time, even if that amounts to minimum wage. Compensation is always appreciated.

                    Or am I getting something wrong here? How will -strictly donated- money hurt the project?

                      It sends the wrong message and may confuse motivation for working on a project in the first place.

                      You should work on a project like this because its dear to you, not because theres a chance of monetary gain (and frankly there is none, so its a moot point)

                        Let me be very frank.

                        I've worked with people for many years that do nothing but fund raising. They are very good at getting influential people to donate money to Museums but I've seen them pull rabbits out of the hat and get all kinds of things funded. From the most unlikely sources.
