short command as a result of which you and your co-players are able to execute an action. 1. As said before, TeamFortress(C) is based on team play. This means that your team and communication with your team is more important than anything, as in most cases you will be playing with people you do not know. (So bind keys to most of the general messages and actions). For instance, if, in an opposing base, a sentry gun kills you, do not immediately respawn in your safe spawning area, but inform your team of the sentry gun and its location so that appropriate action can be taken. A silent player may be good, but he cannot count on any assistance from his team members. In playing TeamFortress it should always be considered that you are not playing for your personal gratification, but for a team victory. If you score lots of frags, this may look good on your score card, but in the end you are nothing but an average deathmatch player stuck in the wrong game. The essence is to fulfil the goal set by the game. When you like to just shoot around then please refer yourself to the deathmatch side of the room and enjoy yourself. In TeamFortress its less about shooting, its more about thinking. I' m an average player but have topped some scoreboards, simply by thinking, reacting to messages, and assisting my incidental teammates. 2. Always have the upper hand, or dictate the game. This might seem an odd statement, but I have seen games where a team of three beat and overran a team of seven. Numerical majority doesnt mean anything if you cannot control the field or the game. This control is simply done by a number of things, which will be discussed later. I have been in games where the five of us kept 10 enemies out of our base. We didn't even bother with a defense, but that turned out to be a mistake... 3.Never give up, and be convinced of victory, even if the opposing team has the upper hand. This because there are no superhuman players and everyone makes mistakes. Regroup and discuss your strategy. Maybe your defence is weak, giving them unhindered access to your base, maybe you have a half-hearted offence, making it easy for them to defend. Several wars have shown that the tide of war can turn quickly and unexpectedly. 4. Use the enemies weaknesses. Every enemy will have a weakness somewhere. Ever run up to an enemy who used only soldiers to attack? Have you tried taking them out with snipers, medics, spies? or a combination of sentry guns, demoman and heavyweapons guys? By the way, if hes attacking, whos defending his base? 5. Always let the enemy meat you on your terms, never meet him on his. Reaction is bad, action is good. As soon as you notice that your team is trying to put out fires along the way, and is not starting fires, you are doing something wrong. Change your strategy, change your tactics. Let the enemy get away with the flag for once while you regroup and restart the attack. 5. Do not take your strategy to extremes. Be careful and bold at the same time. An army, which attacks and attacks, will be easy to circumvent. An army that defends and defends will become the target of numerous attacks. Decide every second which strategy fits best and act accordingly. Also inform your team of it. Think about defense before offence, in other words secure areas before proceeding. It is better to be a careful winning player, then a losing bold player! |
